Charter Oak Linebacker Jordan Gonzalez led the Charger defense.

(Covina) – The Charter Oak defense lead by linebacker Jordan Gonzalez compiled four sacks, picked off two passes, and scored two touchdowns in their 34-6 Homecoming win over Los Altos Friday night at Lou Farrar field. Solomon Davis and Zakkarii Black added scores on offense.

“It was just a great team win, you know?” said Gonzalez after the game. “We had a great preparation for practice. We had a great week. We knew the matchup knowing that it was going to be a tough one, but we came out here and played like how we’re supposed to play.”

With it being homecoming for the Chargers, it didn’t take long for early fireworks. On the Conquerors’ opening possession, Anthony Rivas fumbled, and Gonzalez was able to pick it up and return it for the score.

Just as the first quarter was ending, Vincent Farrar connected with Davis for the 29-yard score, extending the lead to 14-0 after the point after with 17 seconds left in the opening frame.

As the second quarter continued, Los Altos tried to respond with their score; however, the Charger defense sacked David Castillio three times on the same drive.

Then as they were going to punt, Jayden Alexander blocked the kicked, located the ball, and returned it for the touchdown.

There were not many half-time adjustments for the Chargers as their defense continued to stuff the run and force David Castillo into difficult situations in the second half.

While the Charger defense halted the Conquerors for any positive yards, Charter Oak’s offense continued to add points.

Wideout Sam Mason hauled in his second reception of the night and was able to walk into the end zone from four yards out. Then on their ensuing possession, Zakkarii Black took the handoff and bulldozed his way to pay dirt to increase the score to 34-0.

Los Altos avoided the shutout late in the fourth quarter thanks to Andrew Aranda, who took the handoff and outran the defense for the team’s only score.

With the win, the Chargers moved to 5-2 on the season and look to continue their win streak on October 10 when they travel to play Bonita. The Conquerors fall to 1-6 and look to end their six-game losing streak when they open league play against San Dimas.
