Bell Gardens Names Novoa

By Tim Peterson

(Bell Gardens) – Hector Novoa has been named the new head football coach at Bell Gardens he confirmed Saturday.

Novoa, a Bell Gardens alum, spent the last eight years as an assistant at Bishop Amat.

“I was mentored by one of the greatest coaches Steve Hagerty”, Novoa said.

Novoa takes over for Victor Salazar who was let go last month after two seasons. The Lancers went 4-5 overall last year and 3-2 in the Almont League. They missed the playoffs on a coin flip.

He was freshmen coach for a few years at amat & did great than moved up to be Hagertys rb coach. Well respected at Amat by players and coaches. Anybody whos ever played for him will tell you hes legit. Knows his X’s & O’s both sides of the ball. He will bring winning back to Bg very soon id bet anything on that. People from Bg know that which is why there are kids coming home who had left. Thats what happens when you bring in someone well respected.

What happened to the SGVJAAFC Lancers? I know they were robbed just a few seasons ago. Did they not recover from that?

What CIF titles does this guy have? Recruiter..can’t win with what’s in the neighborhood? He was there a couple of years ago and they still couldn’t keep players. He followed the kids to Amat.

The issue that’s hurting most of the local teams, is that SGVJAA is losing most of the top kids to stronger leagues, then the leftover best kids from the SGVJAA teams are getting pulled to local privates leaving the local public schools with slim pickings. Just the reality of the game these days. Hope BG can get back to its old ways. While he’s at it tell him to get Bobby Andrade to his Alma mater and away from the snakes.

Who do you think was the coach that had BG respected by all, it was this coach he’s the one that carried our city he’s the only coach that brought our city titles & this was back when the SGVJAA was loaded. BG has never been the same since he left to Bishop Amat. Administration nailed it with this hiring no big name with CIF titles just a great recruiter with passion and a great football mind.

Good job Jordan!! Hiring Hector is the best thing that could happen for BG. There has not been a hard working coach with a legit staff like Hectors.

Congrats to the new coach. When the new recruit you are bringing don’t forget about the players of Bell Gardens that stayed and stuck it out.

Here’s some insight of what Coach Novoa has done for me. Coach Novoa was my RB coach at Amat my last 3 seasons and he was a man of great character he showed up every day never missed a day and was always on time he was always prepared and made sure we were always prepared. He believed in me since the day he met met me he stood by me through the good and the bad. He helped prepare me for the level I’m playing at now.

I think where BG is struggling is the lack of a youth feeder program. When they had one a few years back they were already struggling, let’s see what the new coach can do, gotta give him some time.

Sorry Chill, you must be a relative of the new coach. If you can give us some history of his previous coaching accomplishments it would be nice. I touched Hagerty’s robe once but that does not mean I can coach football.

Sometimes I get the feeling that if our Lord and Savior himself were named head coach at some high school, there would still be a firestorm of controversy over the deal. The story would be that the redeemer wasn’t a really close confidant of Hagerty.

Like Butch said “who is this guy?” Not listed as any coach at Bishop that I can see. Makes it seem on Twitter that he has been coaching varsity since 2013. A little more fact than his claim he was mentored by Hagerty, as what? What sat you Matt V you are the Amat talker these days. Please fill in some blanks. This man is our new direction right?
