Pomona HC Anthony Rice looks like he's still ready to play

T-Minus-54 Days until “The Mid Valley Classic”

Good Evening!

Sorry I was hit with the ESPY’s and the MLB All-Star game in the same week…Just a little overwhelming.

Someone told me to watch the ESPY’s and I thought it was a reality series on former MLB and Dodger outfielder Cecil Espy…Now that would have been interesting.

I hear Cecil’s next door neighbor is Rich Rodas.

Got up this morning and Peterson was sitting at my breakfast table…Dude has been everywhere lately.

Out at the Claremont Tourney this afternoon saw some good action, including a hard working Pomona staff. Anthony Rice’s group didn’t look like a team ready to settle for fifth place in the Wild Wild Valle Vista.

I’m not ready to jump on any bandwagons but it’s easy to understand why loyal Fanview Lite reader “605” is high on the Red Devils.

La Salle was throwing with Pomona later in the afternoon and the Lancers Kishon Sanders (formerly of Blair and grandson of Duarte HC Tip Sanders)…is a monster. Whoa! Pity the dude forced to tackle him one on one.

Saw Workman, met new HC Scott Morrison. It’s interesting to see former M-Town standout Rob (Robbie) Bartlett is handling the quarterbacks on the Lobos staff.

Speaking of assistants, back at the Bonita Tournament I found out Eric Martinez was Upland’s defensive coordinator. Before that he was at Colony on Anthony Rice’s staff. Before that he was at El Rancho on Willie Reyna’s staff. Before that he served has HC at El Monte in 2002…and on top of all of it Martinez is an Arroyo alum. That’s just what I know, there were probably stops in between.

…Places like West El Monte Poly serving on Skip Picou’s staff.

These guys (assistants) make the rounds. Part of me finds the life of a high school assistant really interesting. Practically all of these guys have outside careers cooking, but they do football because they are so passionate about it.

Just blows me away.

Personally if I’m “Don” Lou Farrar and a rainbow appears over my shoulder during an interview, I gonna be feeling pretty good about the upcoming season.

Got to my office in Burbank around ten today and Peterson is sitting at my desk….Dude has been everywhere.

The last time San Gabriel waited until the season opener to name a starting quarterback it was Isaac Valdez, and they didn’t have to worry about naming a starter again for a long while.

No indication from Mats HC Jude Oliva on whether it will be Andy Guerrero or Eric Alvarez.

Whoever takes the reigns for SG might want to get on friendly terms with Dennis Vaughn and Danny Huerta who are defensive bad dudes for Zero Week opponent Muir.

Speaking of Muir, they had another great showing today at Claremont. Mustang quarterback Jeff Davis was looked at as a game manager heading into this season, but things seem to be coming together for him awfully fast.

Had someone else say don’t look at the returning roster at Cal, just know that they are going to be good. Okay, I’m buying they’ll be good…but better than The Ranch? Better than Santa Fe?

Speaking of the Chiefs: I’ve been told SF linebacker Gael Esparza (6’2” 225) is special. I think I saw him play at the Bonita Tourney, but I’m not sure. Open to any info someone may have on him.

Got a call from Peterson this afternoon and the dude was in Yucca Valley, checking out a rumor about a local talent considering a transfer… I’m telling you, the dude is eveywhere.

“Football Rush Week” is coming…

Stay thirsty my friends…
