    We’re all familiar with La Serna’s habit of using subs in games that would be huge blowouts with the starters going all the way. In this way, games that should have finished 65-0 wind up being 42-17. Most of us, myself included, have assumed this is because the Lancers have class, and don’t want to rub things in against garbage opponents. But it’s interesting to realize that making the blowout games look closer actually helps to get LS an easier playoff situation, because the Calpreps power rating assumes teams are giving maximum effort. So the Lancers’ nice-guy behavior against lousy teams is really a way to get the boys on the hill a smoother playoff journey.

    Something to think about when reflecting on the value of those LS football titles.

    @Sports Man,

    Too much travel? La Mirada, Mayfair, Downey, and Warren is not too much travel for La Serna. That league would be great for HS football especially in your area. It would be right up there with leagues like the Sunset and the Basline. Not sure how true it is, but I heard the Whittier district schools suggested League changes and that LS fought hard against it.

    Travel? It’s not like Santa Fe and El Rancho are a lot closer to La Serna than Downey and Warren. Drive the extra 8 minutes for more competitive games. Don’t say gas $ is a problem and then schedule Crean Lutheran, Damien, Edison, and Tesoro. Creating that schedule but then fighting to stay in a weak league is wanting your cake and eating it too. Want the benefit of saying you’re a top tier program while being able to rest for at least 4-5 weeks out of the season and give your top fundraisers some garbage time in blowouts.

    Everyone should do what Orange County did for their leagues. Now a school like La Habra can’t dominate their league anymore just by showing up. If you don’t know what I’m talking about, I suggest going onto Calpreps and reading what they have to say on the matter at the top of the main website.

    Anonymous? Do you think LS is responsible for ‘league teams’? Some districts try to keep the district schools together, although finally let Pioneer (always lowest enrollment, and very, very unsuccessful since around ? 1998 to 2001 or so) complete in a league in which they can compete a little

    The Poop Monster? Why a ‘fake state championship?’ Can you describe why you call it a fake championship?

    Always talking about scheduling. It’s a solid schedule, what should they do play a murderers row? 3 or 4 tough games then league to get healthy and ready for playoffs. Everyone commenting on this and complaining would go less them .500 with the schedule.

    This is the ploy La serna uses. Schedule some tough games during non league and then rest during league. Now they put Schurr on the schedule and they get some rest during non league too.
    I see people commending this schedule as tough on social media How??? Half of their games are gonna be a running clock by halftime.

    Even if they go 10-0 this schedule will not move them up to a tougher division in the playoffs. Very smart schedule.

    I like the swords in this graphic. The team may have to poke themselves with those sharp tips to stay awake during league play.

    Damien- L
    Schurr- W
    Warren -L assuming there isn’t a mass exodus
    Tesoro- W
    Crean Lutheran- W
    Edison- L

    7-3 after their 4 week bye also known as Del Rio League play. Should be in a power league’s similar to the Baseline but from the sounds of Escarcega and others, it doesn’t look like that will be happening anytime soon or later.
