Northview HC Marcel Perez, DL Coach Joey Mastersimone, & OL Coach Dominic Angelo

T-Minus-51 Days until “The Mid Valley Classic”

Good Morning!

One of the things I’ve come to enjoy with the passage of time is “Dead Period” becoming much more subjective. Meaning not all of the schools are dark at once…Some will actually be pushing through straight until kick-off.

A great line one coach gave us this past week: “Since when is a transfer not athletically motivated?”

Is it just that Jonathan Broxton with that 6’4” 294-pound frame of his can’t go two-innings? Is it that he doesn’t have the talent to get more than three outs? Has Joe Torre worked him that hard?

Three outs and three outs only seems kind of pricey for a 4-million dollar a season closer.

Still kind of hard to buy the lineman’s comp as anything more than a whole lot of fun. It was laid back at Arroyo on Saturday.

There should have been a tug-o-war…or is that tug-of-war…whatever it is when two teams are pulling against each other with a long rope…there should have been one of those.

But what do I know.

Live and Learn Dept.: I have never travelled out of state during the spring or early summer. Mostly I’m an August traveller, so I was surprised when it was explained to me that football players in other states (Texas/Florida) are in full gear now.

There were so many colors at the Arroyo Linemen Competition over the weekend that the only thing missing during the trophy presentation at the end was His Arroyo Baldness loudly proclaiming: “CAN YOU DIG IT?!”

(And Danny Rios was holding the trophies)

A team that is expected to struggle in the Valle Vista this year but performed well in the competition was Northview.

“We’re gonna run the ball,” says Vikings HC Marcel Perez and he does have some big dudes to do it with.

I would have enjoyed the Claremont Passing Tourney more if the temperature hadn’t been set to; HELL.

Still it didn’t bother Muir, which won the consolation bracket.

Yes, the Mustangs look good.

I didn’t see South Hills quarterback Vince Hernandez throw in 2009, but a lot of people are talking about him in the positive heading into to 2010.

Hoping to collect the six-year old lunch former Arroyo lineman Kenny Andrew owes me when he comes on “The Mid Valley Sports Show” this Tuesday night…

Note to Andrew: I accept cash.

“Football Rush Week” is coming…

Stay thirsty my friends…
