San Gabriel Academy Too Much for Bonita

(La Verne) – San Gabriel Academy jumped out to a 22-9 first quarter lead and never looked back in a 73-57 win over Bonita Saturday night in the CIF Division 3A Semi-Finals before a sold out crowd at Bonita High.

It was 14-2 in the first five minutes and the Eagles were up 13 when the first quarter ended. Jayden Mojica had seven points in the opening frame and Ethan McCloskey hit a pair of threes for six.

Mojica and the Eagles kept up the pressure in the second quarter. Mojica hit two more threes and scored 10 in the quarter and Bourgeois Tshilobo bullied his way inside for eight points including a thunderous dunk. Josh Kim tried to keep the Bearcats in the hunt as he scored nine in the second quarter but San Gabriel Academy still took a 42-26 lead into the half.

It was more of the same in the third quarter as Tshilobo continued to do his work inside with seven more points and McCloskey and Maz Lumori each knocked down treys from long range. The lead was 19 as the third quarter buzzer sounded.

The Eagles extended the lead to 22 in the fourth quarter before emptying the bench. Mojica hit five three-pointers overall and finished with a game high 27 points. Tshilobo scored 17 and McCloskey and Lumori each had nine.

Kim led the Bonita attack with 14 points and Hunter Smith had 13 including three three-pointers. Colton Perez hit two treys and scored 10 and Jordan Kenwood added nine.

Bonita finishes the season at 22-12 overall while San Gabriel Academy heads to the Division 3A Finals against Oakwood.
