(Montebello) – Cantwell Sacred Heart has named Eddie Ficklin Jr. as its new head football coach the school confirmed Thursday.
Ficklin Jr., who was the defensive coordinator at La Salle last year, takes over for C.J. Martinez who stepped down after the season.
Cantwell is coming off of a successful campaign. The Cardinals went 9-2 last year and 6-0 in the Camino Real League. They lost in the first round of the CIF Division 10 playoffs to Covina 35-23.

I heard they had a Great Candidate that could really build their program but they went in the direction of this Coach. Hope it all works out but I know they made a mistake not hiring the other Candidate who I know for a fact can build a program. I wish them luck!
I wonder what happened with Coach Martinez? I thought he did a great job there !
As for the hire … DC at LaSalle made playoffs , sounds cool; however even a cursory review shows LaSalles defense to be suspect last year . They gave up 30+ points a game , even including shutout of sad sack Rosemead . In first round of playoffs they gave up 48 to Sunny Hills ! (Sunny Hills scored 14 or LESS in 10
of 12 games)
I guess other things are more important to administration than actually having good results
I hope they don’t face many wing -T teams next year !
Any word on who’s going to replace Ficklin when he steps down? This school changes coaches faster than most guys change socks.
