T-Minus-35 Days until “The Mid Valley Classic”
Good Morning!
With all the Bubba talk; some have said they want more mention of Rosemead’s Big Sal Chavarin.
Will Alex Rodriguez (if he catches him) getting the all-time home run record be viewed any different than it was when Barry Bonds took the crown?
Former El Monte/ELAC quarterback Pedro “Pete” Velasquez will be playing his college football next season at Division II Western New Mexico.
Speaking of quarterbacks Mayfair’s Evan Hunko is feeling confident about 2010.
“Both myself and the team feel really good about the upcoming season. Last season we graduated 27 players including the whole offensive line. This year we return 37 players. We look forward to the competition. Last season we went into overtime to defeat Artesia so it is always a good practice to approach every opponent as ”really tough”. The whole team is determined to start a new undefeated league streak.”
Oh, I have always been an Andre Ethier fan… but Joe Torrre’s new “Keep Hope Alive” mantra has all the energy of a yawning festival.
An insider from the Jack Del Rio League tells me the top team is La Serna.
“You know about Andrew Buenrostro, but Connor Burke and Andrew Rosales have hands and speed.”
The source, with a decade of experience in the DRL, touted Jake Houts at linebacker and said the Lancers will have their biggest offensive line in years. He closed by saying Pioneer most likely would finish in sixth, but it was his fifth place team that caught my eyes and ears: California. He praised new feature back Justin Dankert, but said he’s not going to be able to do the things Terris Jones did a year ago.
Bonita Alum is asking me the Trib question about Diamond Ranch versus San Dimas and Monrovia in 2009. The Panthers beat the Wildcats…I don’t know about the Saints. Not wise to pick against Tre Evans, and Bill Zernickow spooks me… He always seems to have a card to play…
I don’t subscribe to the theory that M-Town wins CIF if there is no deluge on the night of the finals.
As my friend George Bailey used to say; “In the whole vast configurations of things…” Where would D-Ranch be if not for Charter Oak? How would Roddy Layton and the Panthers be viewed without facing the Chargers at the end of the line in 2008 and 2009? I did become a big Gus Viramontes fan late last year.
Have a feeling a lot of Arroyo people are going to be Anthony Miller fans before the season is over.
Little Help Dept.: Is it Steve Hagerty or Steve Haggerty for the Bishop Amat HC…I’ve seen both spellings.
Last Add Monrovia: New DC Ted Clarke is a difference maker…I’m told to expect more out of the M-Town defense this fall.
“Football Rush Week” is coming…August 23-27.
Stay thirsty my friends…
