Beltran took over an abysmal Bell Gardens team and turned them into a playoff team. Even had a little bit of a run in 2018. Coach George is a great coach but I wonder how he would be able to handle coaching in a lower income area like Bell Gardens that doesn’t get nearly the talent La Serna does.

Oh and Beltran is now a big part of South El Monte’s current undefeated season. Again, another lower income area that doesn’t get nearly the talent of La Serna.

Beltran tried to make something out of Bell Gardens and failed spectacularly. Now he’s clinging to the sport by serving as an assistant elsewhere. So yeah, his success at Open Enrollment High was all him.

Coach Beltran is still coaching great at sem which is 7-0 and only allows 9.8 points a game where he is the dc 🤣 so don’t say he’s not doing anything coaching wise anymore

Not sure what El Rancho has to do with this open enrollment topic or La Serna’s open enrollment policies, but I will bite. It is my belief that we must focus on what we have on our campus and what we can control, we can’t control what happens in Whittier so why should we worry about LS other than the week we play them.

    1. El Rancho only has 1 HS in the city and can only draw from Pico Rivera. Enrollment is only around 2000 students, we can’t go and pull anyone from any other city because they are legally not able to enroll at ERHS.
    2. Ancich is mediocre at best, no one wants to play at Whittier especially when La Serna is an option.

“idk what to call the kind of offense they run”

    3. Ryan Vasquez – 2022 All CIF QB, All Area, All League
    4. Angel Diaz – 2022 All CIF TE/LB, All Area, League MVP
    5. Elijah Mitchell – 2021 All Area QB, All League 1st Team
    6. Anthony Bonilla – 2021 All CIF RB, All Area, All League 1st team
    7. Chris Andrade – 2019 All CIF QB, All Area, League Offensive MVP
    8. Roman Rojas – 2019 All CIF RB, All Area, All League
    9. Ryan Santa Maria 2018 – All Area TE, All League 1st Team
    10. Brandon Carmona – All CIF OL, All Area, DRL Offensive MVP
    11. Adam Chandler – All CIF QB, All Area, All League 1st team
    12. Gabriel Huerta – All CIF WR, All Area, League Offensive MVP

Above is what you call the “El Rancho Offense” If you want stats I can post those also, before making yourself look like a buffoon you better check yourself or you’re going to continue to get schooled. Everyone knows who you are and we know you’re a soft DELETED hater, if you have something to say then come say it in person. I dare you to name one other public school in the whittier area not named La Habra or La Serna with those kind of accolades.

So if open enrollment is the key why doesn’t everyone go to the ranch? Or Whittier when ancich kid was there? Well because El Rancho sucks. They have a trash program and coaches. I don’t even know what to call that offense they run. They will always be the red headed step child of the DRL. Rancho18 probably thinks the cowboys are going to the Super Bowl. Looking forward to see the score next week after they get rolled again year after year. Losers

Nothing turned LS around more than the open enrollment vote for the Whittier Union high school district school board It wasnt Margarito Beltran it was not Andy George even tho at least Beltran has a ring as a hc the only ones who can stop the madness are the Whittier schools but they all fear the repercussions

@FBFan I think @Sports man meant before Beltran, LS was just an average football program in the DR. Coach Beltran did an great job turning that program around. Between the two coaches (beltran and george)since 07, the program is 148-46. With 9 league championships, 5 final appearances and 1 CIF championship. LS has been a constant contender for years. That says a lot about the coaching and the kids buying into a program.

    Sports Man,

I believe La Serna’s current coach was hired by coach prior to Beltran. I may be mistaken, but I believe Beltran also served for that head coach and took over the reigns when he retired.

    @ Sports Man,

Average? You La Serna people are crazy if you think that it would be where it is now without the vision of Margarito Beltran. La Serna started scheudling and beating teams like Westlake and Rancho Cucamonga under him. Andy George is a fine head coach with an excellent staff so nothing to be taken from him, but when you make these outlandish comments you sound ignorant. If not for Beltran’s rough around the edges demeanor that didn’t bode well with the Friendly Hills administrators, he’d still be the HC at La Serna and doing just as well.

its hard to schedule at this level bc you really want to put a couple challenges up and not skip along pre season but with every year being so unpredictable . We just gotta roll with the punches take the injuries that are unfortunate and move forward. Def don’t help the moral of the team, but then again this is where who see what kids are really made of.

sad part is this year team is def. missing that ONE QB or RB who can put the team on its back and go. Worst offense Medrano has had in all his years at ER. Don’t get me started on Defense. Yet I strongly believe the Defense is the Strength of the team this season.

Mandingo? La Serna began their climb to the top of the league after an average Head Coach left! Beltran was the new head coach and hired an excellent staff, including the current head coach. LS was average under the direction before the coaching change, so maybe you can educate yourself and make commentary more realistic. I suggest most of La Serna players live south of the border

  25. October 9, 2023 - 5:44 pm | Permalink

One or two step up games wouldn’t kill the team and it’s probably better to be in a tough game a couple times at least. The league is so down this year they won’t get it in league play. But you are right South is always tough, but is being tough the education a team needs in crunch time?

You are 100 percent right. These guys that want them to jump up to play northview are clueless. Just follow what SG did last year, peak in the playoffs. Look at el rancho right now, they barely have a team left. Go into the playoffs healthy. The south El Monte kids are already tough,it’s a tough area. It’s about being healthy and confident.

Playing Covina is stupid? How good do you think they are and how bad do you think SEM is ? Are you just interested in being favored in every game you play in? Point is win or lose there is a lesson to be learned about your team and your coaching. You have to challenge your team at some point. The Eagles won’t be tested enough to have anything to lean on when times get tough in the playoffs which will mean an early exit. Bad schedule management

  29. October 9, 2023 - 10:45 am | Permalink

@anonymous, I don’t agree, Are they better? sure. But the gap isn’t that wide it would be a nice challenge for the boys. but lets say you’re right about those two teams what about West Covina South Hills ? What I’m suggesting is a step up game so of course it isn’t an automatic win. The mission valley league is absolutely terrible and SEM will bring back most of this team so they should be on those levels. I’d rather play a northview maybe lose and learn what it takes to beat teams like them if the ultimate goal is win a CIF title.

@ziggy how do u expect us to play with team like Northview or Covina I believe in sem but it’s two completely different leagues I’d like to see there preseason next year improve and play teams like schurr ,San Gabriel ,even rip hondo prep but to play Covina or Northview would just be plain stupid like Bonita scheduling sv

  31. October 8, 2023 - 10:43 pm | Permalink

As bad as the MVL is this season couple by the fact that SEM has played a joke of a preseason means when they play Arroyo it will be the first time all season the Eagles will find themselves in a fight. If iron sharpens iron what good is having so many games vs soft teams? Coach said in an interview he knew this team was good even said this is the most talented team hes had while at SEM so why not challenge your team? Why not set up games that will prepare them for a playoff run? The way the the season will play out is they will be either 1 or 2 in MVL having only played 1 real team going into the playoffs which is a recipe for disaster. add teams like Los Altos, Northview and/or Covina next season boys will be way more prepared for a deep run than this puff schedule could ever do.
