@ his coach, wow you hit home 100%.
Well said, in a very short period how these kids attitudes and culture changed, different breed.
@Lancer RE: The El Whittier Rancho Dons?
Holy Pico Rivera 1 school, but more than 1 city’s kids playing on the football team scandal Batman. What do you mean a bunch of guys that lived in Whittier played on El Rancho’s 1966 mythical championship team?
That would mean, according to the majority of posters on here that the ’66 ER National Championship was not legit.
They would say El Rancho was just a Mid Valley All Area All Star team back in the day when they won those CIF Titles in the 60’s.
For the record, I totally disagree, IMHO El Rancho’s 66 Title is legit, but there’s no way the Ranch18 guy and his sock puppet minions will let ’66 slide as a legit title for ER. After all, Ranch18 has dedicated his entire life to running his mouth trying to discredit La Serna’s CIF Titles and great ascent to dominant area team, while claiming ER is all Pico Kids.
This is a crushing blow to Ranch18 & his loser mentality. To find out half of his El Rancho Natty team was actually players that lived in Whittier must be devastating. Will Ranch18 have to be institutionalized after this. Will he ever post again?
That was a truly shocking revelation.
I mean what’s next, somebody is gonna try to tell me that Santa Fe had players on Malhstede teams that didn’t live in SF Springs???
Humble in Victory, Gracious in Defeat.
This is for all those who are going to feel the need to hurry to this site immediately following their respective games this weekend.
Best wishes to all of our area teams playing this final week.
Just to clarify, El Rancho was not in the Whitmont league in 1966, I believe they were in the Pacific League at that time?
But really, by run, I didn’t mean just this season, as you would get no argument from me about the El Rancho ’66 mythical national champion as the best. What I meant by best run ever in the Whitmont/Del Rio league is this current 14 year run of sustained excellence that LS started in 2010 to the present.
While there were some really good Bell Gardens teams in the early 80’s and Santa Fe dominated the league 1995-09, but neither team won CIF and esch only made 1 or 2 Finals.
La Serna making 6 CIF Finals, and winning 2 CIF Titles during this run has clearly elevated them to heights no Whitmont or Del Rio league team has ever reached until now.
So, yes LS is currently is on the greatest run (from 2010 til now) in the Whitmont/Del Rio league history and it’s really not even debatable.
@Pioneer Titans Forever got ran out the Del Rio League
Wow, that’s quite a compliment saying La Serna is a D2 team. You might be right.
That is some well deserved solid confidence in the CIF Champion Lancers.
After all, you don’t beat 7 of the top 60 teams in the Southern Section, all 7 of them by at least 2 TDs, like La Serna did this year if you’re not pretty good.
@Sports Man?
Wow! LS would beat BG!!! That’s like saying Mater Dei or any Trinity League team would beat LS by the same. That’s a dumb argument. LS should at the very least be in D3 and maybe D2. Keep pounding your chest. Nobody really cares except the nutbag LS fan base. Play the big boys and you will see quickly how dominant you really are…
Regarding – What (his coach) wrote,
Now that ladies and gentlemen is
truly a class act, and an absolute coaching legend.
What the coaches & players have accomplished over the last 15 years @LS is simply amazing.
As a guy who proudly wore the LS jersey back in the day, I think I can speak for all LS Alumni when I say a massive thank you, (to Coach Cab especially, who doesn’t get the credit he deserves), and to the entire coaching staff for all of your hard work & dedication. You won’t find a better coaching staff.
@Don I would be remiss if I didn’t mention the glue that holds the program together. Coach George
has also been a constant..Now more than ever his job is increasingly harder the extra two games
means hours and hours of work added to the schedule..Finding Practice facilities and such while still
working on his AD duties..This staff is really one of the best I’ve ever been a part of. Many of you mock
this but all the men on the staff believe in Honor Courage and Commitment! Grant is really good but
LS will leave it all on the field and that’s all we can ask of any team!!!

do you stay thinking about me? lol…. come say hi to me one day so we can take a picture together for those times your missing me….
heck … ill even put it in a ER picture frame for you … lol… with hearts for your sorry a55
i dont need to post under fake accounts… i got nothing to hide… unlike you “anonymous”
@Don and Lancer…i am humbled and proud of my ER roots and of the LS football program. The players here truly believe themselves to be brothers. Just as we did in the 60’s at the Ranch…not just with their current teammates but with all the LS football players of the past. The blogs are what they are.., and although it’s frustrating to read things that the bloggers THINK they know about..but don’t really have a clue, they can’t be convinced otherwise This LS team like every other since 2008 prepares the same way for every game.. no game is any different in the prep..this is one thing i learned at ER when i was 16 and i believe in it today..respect your opponent on Monday thru Thursday by learning their tells and tendencies and then use that to beat them on game night. So No matter what the results are this Friday, it IS our last game… win or lose it’s been a hell of a season . One for the record books !!!
@Lancer,
You are spot on in your history. Coach Caballero is a the one constant for La serna as he was there with Beltran as they rose and is still there with George while they are thriving.
The Whittier boundaries were a big part of the reason for Ernie Johnson’s el Rancho success in 1966.
But then the rest of the Whittier schools got a little upset by their successes. Couple that with East LA residence moving out of their area and into Pico Rivera. Whittier schools then started to call El Rancho the unruly school of the district as a way to remove them which eventually happened. El Rancho then created its own school district.
The elite attitude that the Whittier schools has over El Rancho still persists today. Unfortunately it starts with La serna and twinkles down. Just look at the piñata incident. It also was about 10-15 years ago when Pioneer was beating La serna in a basketball game before the La Serna faithful started chanting “we got money yes we do. We got money how bout you?”
I have never understood why El Rancho feels so tied to the schools in its former district when they have been mistreated for so long dating back to the 60’s.
How old were in 1966…. unless u were in high school back then how can you make that statement. That 66 ER team had at least 5 division 1 college players..at schools like SC..UCLA..Stanford….stay in ur lane..
I think we have some imposters here claiming to be LS fans. Probably Rancho -18 with his alter ego.
LMAO 1966 bro you kill me. Trust me they didn’t have the athletes they have today not even close.
La Serna & Rio Hondo Prep keeping some pretty good company the last 6 years.

1966 El Rancho considered the best team in SGV history. Very impressive run by La Serna though gotta give them credit.

Awesome accomplishment for El Rancho winning a national championship in the 60’s! Also a fact that is never mentioned cause no one cared is a good amount of those players lived in Whitter on that team because of school boundaries. Current La Serna offensive coordinator Coach Caballero was a fellow Don during that time also winning a Division 1 CIF championship at El Rancho in that time. Cab is a big reason for all this success at La Serna and it shows. Proud of what those kids have accomplished making their own mark in history. Don’t be angry at these kids and all their success.
When did a local team win a national championship? El Rancho 1966.
Congrats to Rio Hondo Prep! Still mind blowing a school of 66 boys and zero transfers has what it takes to perform at this level. First CIF championship in single digits. Simply amazing.

December 3, 2023 – 7:53 pm | Permalink..? describe why la serna don’t belong in d4? you incorrect
Anonymous >>>?? national championship? when did local team win national championship? Maybe Mater Dei or similare up north. And Lancer nation// LS built it and ‘then best will come’..BG will never get there but i respect BG and in weakest division they earned their success
LSJuggernaut if players and student body are dumb enough to think this then a result of poor education
Lancer Nation
December 3, 2023 – 8:37 am | La serna will beat BG by 80 points, so ls is more deserving easy
where are all you La Serna haters
@ LS??
You’re beyond moronic! Take a look in the mirror. LS is placed in a Division they have no business in. It’s amazing that someone like yourself can sit there and destroy someone’s hard work (BG). LS is good but nothing special. People don’t drive from miles away to see them. Don’t ever compare yourself to the big boys. You have zero football acumen. You’re an clown…
Wrong, if you ever with a national championship then you can call it the greatest run in Del Rio League/Whitmont history.
The best of bottom 7%, that’s D14
@Old has been
“You’re the reason so many hate the Lancers”
Not really, there was already a large amount of hate going on here against LS. Since LS parents and coaches have always been the standard for integrity and class, I figured I would do the dirty work, as they are above this. But I don’t start the fights, I just respond to them and then finish them with actual facts. If you want to talk mess, then I’ll talk trash back. If you don’t, I don’t. It’s pretty simple.
But IRDGAF you’re either with us or against us. When your school is currently in the midst of having the greatest run of dominance & sustained excellence in Whitmont/Del Rio league FB history, of course there is gonna be late of hate from the local area. The more hate the better, y’all keep drinking that hatorade, and I’ll keep drinking the Arrogant Bastard Ale & LS will keep winning.
Like St. Paul, Los Altos, La Mirada, & La Habra before them, it’s La Serna’s turn to be the dominate team in the area & hopefully this run goes another 15 or 150 yrs.
PS Have you figured out the internet yet? Good luck, its really not that hard.
Thank You Mr. Peterson!!!
Saying that reminds me of a scene out of John Wayne’s movie The Green Beret.
A true classic!!
@ LSJuggleNUTS
Your efforts to sound sincere are overcome by your arrogance. If you come on here to ridicule, then just do so. If your intentions are to congratulate and applaud the BG Lancers success, then just do so. But to try and juggle both……nah, don’t do it. You’re the reason why so many hate LS Lancers. It’s too bad you’re tied to them. They equally deserve to congratulated and applauded.
“It is better to remain silent and be thought a fool, than to speak out and remove all doubt.”
Best wishes to all of our area teams who move on to the State Championship Games
From T. Peterson: Exactly.
As a football alum that was coached by the legendary coach Newell. And I can speak for all the past football alum. We are proud of the young men that are on the current team. It take nothing away from the teams of the past that why we were over 100 strong at all of the games. From the early 70s to last year’s team we are proud of the young men and coaching staff that is currently playing for a state title.
Congrats to Bell Garden. Ranked #694 in the state, they are truly the best of the worst bottom half teams in California.
It’s great for them I guess, even with an enrollment of 3,000+ and their appearance sadly taking away a spot from a really small school that should be playing in the bottom division instead.
Another aspect is false legacy. You will have guys on this current team thinking like they played on the best BG team in school history, which is disrespectful and untrue as any 1 of Dave Newell’s BG teams from the 1980s/early 90’s would have pummeled this current benefactor of participation trophy era BG team.
It’s weird though seeing a school that’s has to play in the toughest division in basketball, 5AA, because of their large enrollment, allowed to play in the absolute weakest bottom division in football.
I still hope they win though,
cause Go Whitmont league baby!
GO LANCERS
The rich keep getting richer and the poor keep
getting poorer. We make accommodations for the poor so they can seem rich . This represents accurately the good and bad of high school football.
The Lancers of La Serna are truly a Mid Valley team, as they are an all star group from every corner of this site’s coverage area. The Lancers of Bell Gardens, by contrast, represent the city of Bell Gardens. Both are playing for a state title next week. Which program best represents what high school sports are supposed to be about?
