Fast Start Sparks San Dimas

(Covina) – San Dimas raced out to a 33-10 halftime lead, withstood a big third quarter rally, and went on to beat host Northview 52-42 Friday night.

The Saints held Northview to just two points in the first quarter to lead 15-2 after one. Ryan Quach hit a three and had five points in the first quarter and Logan Hodson had four.

San Dimas again applied the pressure in the second quarter to open up the 23-point advantage at the break. Hodson scored eight points in the quarter and Nathan Yearout knocked down a pair of threes in the 18-point quarter and this game appeared to be over.

Northview came out firing in the third quarter and got right back in the game. Nick Santillan buried three shots from beyond the arc as the Vikings went on a 15-0 run to open the third. A 23-point game was suddenly down to eight at 33-25.

San Dimas restored order to close the quarter with a 7-0 run to increase the margin back to 15 heading into the final frame.

The Saints did enough in the fourth quarter to finish the job. Yearout hit two more threes and also nailed three key free throws down the stretch.

Alexander Medrano dropped in two more treys for Northview to try to keep the Vikes close but it wasn’t enough.

For San Dimas Hodson led all scorers with 20 points, and Yearout had 15 as the two combined for 35 of the 52. Levi Sinclair added six and Quach had five- all in the first quarter.

For Northview Santillan and Medrano each had 12 points and Adrian Almaraz and Aaron Arreola added six apiece.

San Dimas improved to 14-7 overall and remained perfect in the Valle Vista League at 3-0. Northview fell to 15-6 and 3-1.
