Chargers Name Harbaugh Head Coach

By Tim Peterson

(Inglewood) – The Chargers have named former Michigan coach Jim Harbaugh as their new head coach the team announced Wednesday.

Harbaugh, who signed a five-year deal with the Chargers, just led Michigan to a 15-0 record and the National Championship earlier this month with a 34-13 win over Washington. Harbaugh spent nine years at Michigan and was 86-25 overall and led the Wolverines to three straight victories over Ohio St. beginning in 2021 and three straight Big Ten titles as well as three straight College Football Playoff appearances culminating in a National Championship.

Harbaugh, a Michigan alum, also played quarterback for the Chargers in 1999 and 2000. Harbaugh has had success in all of his head coaching stops which include the University of San Diego, Stanford and Michigan at the college level as well as the San Francisco 49ers in the NFL.

Harbaugh has a record of 144-42 as a collegiate coach and was 44-19-1 with the 49ers which included an appearance in Super Bowl XLVII where he lost to the Baltimore Ravens, coached by his brother John. The Chargers are scheduled to play the Ravens next season at SoFi Stadium.

The Chargers finished 5-12 last season and fired head coach Brandon Staley after a 63-21 loss to the Las Vegas Raiders in Week 15. Staley was in his third season with the Chargers.

Maybe he can influence the owner to move back to San Diego.

This sounds like an excellent hire for the bolts. Hope Harbaugh can win here like he did elsewhere. Meanwhile, how about Pete Carroll going to coach Michigan?
