(Pomona) – Eric Martinez has stepped down as the head football coach at Diamond Ranch to take the head coaching job at Valley View High School in Moreno Valley Fred Robledo of SGVN Sports reported Wednesday.
Martinez was also able to secure a full-time teaching position at Valley View which was the primary reason for him taking the job. The Panthers finished 8-3 overall last season and lost to Muir in the first round of the CIF Division 7 Playoffs.
Martinez suffered a heart attack during a game last year but has made a complete recovery.
Martinez spent eight years as the head coach at Diamond Ranch and had an overall record of 43-38, (1-5 in the playoffs). The Panthers best year under Martinez was in 2017 when they went 8-4 overall and advanced to the second round of the Division 7 playoffs before falling to El Modena.
Diamond Ranch will begin the search for a new head coach immediately.
Releaguing a La Orange County will solve a lot schools problems, and it’s on the way sooner before later.
Going to 8 man had previously been only only way to relegate yourself to lower level and get out of difficult league where playoffs were a longshot at best . Some perennial playoff teams from a decade ago have gone this route with success …..Mojave and Chadwick come to mind.
Why not Whittier ?
When everyone finds out who Whittier has lined up to take over…
Watch out!!!
@Sports Man @T. Peterson Whittier is dropping down to 8-Person because they are finally coming to the realization that they can’t compete at this level.
who did whittier hire as head football coach?
From T. Peterson: They did make a hire but it’s still pending board approval.
