By Tim Peterson

(Pasadena) – Ben Buys has stepped down as the head football coach at La Salle after five seasons to take the head coaching job at Chaffey College. The head football coaching opening is posted on the CIF website.

La Salle was 19-25 overall under Buys during his five years at the helm. The Lancers were 0-2 in the playoffs losing to Sunny Hills in the first round of the Division 10 playoffs in 2022 and to San Dimas in the first round in Division 9 in 2019.

Buy’s best year was 2022 when the Lancers went 6-5 overall and finished fourth in the Del Rey League. La Salle went 4-6 last year.

La Salle now begins the search for a new head coach.

    @Just the Facts: Ah yes, the Press Pass. I did that one season. Awesome if you’re an old salt. Best game I saw was Damien-Los Altos. That’s the game that sold my wife on H.S. football, for as she put it, “that was big boy football” compared to the rest. The speed and big hits impressed her (and scared her too) that night; a couple D1s plus a future MLB draft pick playing that night. I could appreciate the lower division games, having been raised on the game, but that one convinced her to watch more games after that.

    @T.P.
    CIF press passes are different than CIF passes for schools
    I once was refused entry with a CIF pass at a Catholic high school and watched the guynext to me gain entry with his pass. Iasked why not me. Working press was the answer

    Huh? I never had any trouble getting in. Maybe just pony up a few bucks to support football? Passes? I don’t need no stinkin’ passes.

    La Salle is the Alma Mater of Jimmy Caan’s son Jake, so there’s that. But with this school’s policy of not wanting to admit CIF pass holders to its games, it’s hard to feel bad when they falter. I do wish coach Buys all the best in whatever his future holds.
    From T. Peterson: Yes I remember when Jake was there. I covered him. I never had a problem getting into La Salle games with my CIF pass though. Not sure about that one.
