- Steph Curry scored 36 points to lead the U.S. Men’s basketball team to a 95-91 win over Serbia Thursday. They will play for the gold medal Saturday against France.
- U.S. sprinter Noah Lyles won the bronze medal in the 200 meters Thursday at the Paris Olympics. Lyles told reporters he ran the race with COVID-19, which he had been diagnosed with two days earlier.
- Quarterback Everson Mathis and his brother, receiver Preston Mathis, have transferred from Pasadena Poly to Village Christian.
- Charter Oak has hired Chris Allen as its new head varsity baseball coach. Allen was most recently at Upland.
- The Chicago White Sox fired manager Pedro Grifol Thursday. The White Sox just snapped a 21-game losing streak Tuesday that tied an AL record and are 28-89 overall. Grady Sizemore was named interim manager.
- Utah Jazz forward Lauri Markkanen signed a five-year, $238 million extension with the team.
- Quarterback Nick Foles will officially retire with the Philadelphia Eagles during their home opener against the Atlanta Falcons September 16. Foles played for six teams over 11 seasons in the NFL. He was named MVP of Super Bowl LII as he led the Eagles to a win over the New England Patriots.
- The Falcons placed wide receiver Rondale Moore on the reserve/ injured list with a season ending knee injury.
- The Dodgers lead in the NL West is down to 2.5 games after the second place San Diego Padres beat the Pittsburgh Pirates 7-6 Thursday.
- Jeremy Lamb announced his retirement from the NBA after a 12-year career. Lamb won an NCAA championship at UConn in 2011 and then was drafted by the Houston Rockets with the 12th overall pick in the 2012 NBA draft. He played with five different teams.
Saw a girls flag football scrimmage. It is a far more fun watch than boys football. It will overtake the boys in popularity within 3 years.
