And Grady did too..
we didn’t lose Bonilla,
there are alot of factors to why he went to LS. If you know , you know. Kid is going to ball no matter where he ends up. From what ive heard, he’s not going anywhere, he’s riding LS out.
Lets not focus on what should have been, lets focus on what can be next.
Bonilla family will always have ER, but if the kid wants to play anywhere else, so be it. If we want to target why we lose kids like this to other schools. I can go deep on the DISTRICT… nothing to do with Medrano.
everyone knows Medrano and his staff can develop players. (QB’s and all ) Don’t lose focus on what ingredients he has to work with guys.
Odell switch to receiver.
Amat would be a great place for Bonilla if they didn’t have the 3rd Odell brother playing QB.
La Serna would be great place for Bonilla if they didn’t have the 4th Long brother playing QB.
He will NEVER have a fair competition.
Bonilla needs to make his next move , his best move. Sad to see such a talented kid sit and collect dust . He should have just gone to ER like the rest of his family. Wasn’t his mom in charge of the Booster club ? How the Heck do you lose that kid ER ?
Blame the “advisors”
ER looking like the smartest decision right now
When will people learn from others mistakes
You need to understand Bonilla to see how poorly that staff made that move. He’s a game changer, but unfortunately, he’s just sitting collecting dust right now. Come to Amat next year, kid.
The other QB should never have been at La Serna, family ties between Long and George are too thick. According to one of the spaces Bonilla has family ties to El Rancho . One can only wonder what Medrano would have done with such a talented QB walking in as a Freshman. Harsh critics for Boomer. Must be angry parents, Adrian is well respected in the area as a coach who squeezes everything possible out of his players . That would have been more equal competition between Dominguez and Bonilla – ( at very least you have fair judge) . Dominguez looks to be the better QB based on experience. I was very impressed with his decision making and control of the game vs La Serna . Dominguez is only getting better each week , ER needs to focus on getting into playoffs. They will be dangerous team to play .
Interesting update . As I remember Coach Turner came from the college level to coach at SM . That didn’t make a lot of sense to me . and didn’t seeem like long term situation. Then came all the allegations this past winter ; all this being said , I thought Coach did a good job last year although season ended in disappointment, losing at home to Monrovia and in first round of playoffs . They were much better than anytime since 2020
In regards to the start of the thread and the comments about San Marino Football. It should be noted that SM’s head coach from 2023 (Nate Turner) strung along the SM community and then bailed on the program this June for a head coaching job at San Bernardino Valley Jr College. It may have affected the program to an extent as SM was left scrambling for new coaches. Out of curiosity I looked at SBVC’s football record this season. They went 0-2 with a combined score of 130-0 in their first two games. On SBVC’s web site, there is a statement saying that they have paused the 2024 football program for the safety of the players due to low numbers. Coach Turner probably should have stayed at SM where he guided them to a share of the RHL title last season.
Everyone saw what the QB outcome at LS would be from miles away, everyone but the demoted QB’s family I guess. To “justify” it, you will have the coaching staff pat stats, for the newly minted starter, against its DRL opponents.
The same one who can’t win a playoff game? The same one who inherited one of the best freshmen classes in El Rancho football history? The same one who left the program hanging high and dry with $20k debt? The same one who no longer has a job coaching HS football because of his shady financial dealings? No thank you.
Cal Preps critique at the start of the season ? How much does their stuff mean after each team plays ten games and more in playoffs. Can Cal Preps observe each teams improvements, or injured players, or if they suddenly get hot winning maybe three in a row….that they may be much more motivated and knowing ‘this team is very much better than in week one?’ And still improving.
Plenty of people on here keep saying “Cal Preps”? Heck with them; do they own the prediction business
Dons>? do you mean the head coach that went to Pacifica? He is a winner
I am a bit concerned. There are some deficiencies in La Serna’s offense, the running game is almost non existent, hoping Mana beats small DB’s all night will only work in the Del Rio League. Not sure this let Grady air it out experiment is going to work in the 2024 playoffs.
FB fan Hey ! I am not sure, but has MV’s head coach in his 4th season? If yes the experiment (if administration is analyzing) should be over in third year
@Anonymanus,
Obviously your kid doesn’t get much playing time. Poor you….sorry
At the start of the season El Rancho was A Cal Preps rated a -35 team.. Today they are a -7 rated team. A 28 point improvement. One of the highers in all CIF Ca, Teams. But then again what do I know compared to the El Rancho geniuses.
If you are going to be critical of a program and/or coach, please check your spelling and your grammar.
I hope I expressed that properly.
The only one crying is you, you are a clueless bum.
So you’re saying someone else could come in and beat La Serna with this roster? Are you being serious right now? If so stop smoking crack.
ER could be 100% healthy and still would have a hard time beating LS, it’s simply a talent issue.
Don you must be a cowboy fan? Every year is our year? Cmon man you know the ranch will never win a championship with Medrano leading this team. Need to find the right guy and get El Rancho back to the glory days.
Same old excuses. We are hurt we are down to 4th string RB. ER needs new direction. Every year is our year ? When are you gonna wake up? Time to turn the page. He’s never won a Del Rio championship. Are you fine with average? We will never be that team with medrano in the drivers seat. He’s is the guy. Cry all you want but until he leave we will but nothing. He can be the AD if he wants to stay.
Nogales is not good despite having improved QB play with transfer ; they benefit from being in weak league . Wilson will steamroll them . D13 early exit , ….
Obviously somebody who doesn’t know crack about ER would
Say that .
ER is lucky to have Medrano
What change do you want? You are delusional and don’t know what you’re talking about. The days of getting every pico don and 100 kids on the freshmen team are over. We are squeezing every ounce of talent out of severely undersized and young kids. We are down to our 5th string rb, we have our both starting corners hurt and you have expectations to beat La Serna of all teams, do you know how good of a team and program LS has become in the last decade? Here’s a stat for you, in the last 10 years LS has trailed in a Del Rio League game only 4 times and lost only 2 times, in 2014 when ER beat LS, in 2017 when SF beat LS, in 2019 vs Whittier and last night vs the ranch. Let’s say we got another head coach? Who would come? Who is your choice and what do they bring to the table?
You want a guy who brought stability to our program, fought for a brand new stadium, and has the 3rd most wins in school history behind only Ernie Johnson and Don Peterson to step down? GTFOH
We need change. Same old stuff. I agree Medrano needs to step down. We need a new coach and team. We can’t survive like this.
Totally agree. Our kids look lost out there. We don’t have the best athletes but our players have zero chance with these coaches. The HC is in way over his head.
Warren just needs the offseason to come and they can go get a top level coach
@Frustrated, move away. Problem solved.
Outside of the DRL I’m surprised on the Nogales score they should have blown Sierra out. Warren with their first w still didn’t look good and El Monte struggling with Gabrielino is that one better than we thought or worse? In the DR Whittier with a w and Cal with another ugly L.
The experiment with the HC at Mt.View should be over after the season. Nice IG and trying to promote but you have to win games doesn’t matter the program.
@Low Profile Yea seems so. Wouldn’t at all be surprised if they finish behind Muir, Burbank, and CV and don’t make playoffs. Also seems like Hoover is doing something right compared to their past in the league. They went to triple OT against Pasadena the week before, and made a game of it for one half against CV, down 27-14 at half. Irony is, the most talented kids form their feeder school across the street don’t enroll there and go to Pasadena, Burbank, CV, and private schools every year to play ball. They work with the kids they get, which aren’t many, and many are brand new immigrants to the country and American sports. Surprising to see they had such a weak showing in non league play compared to league play.
It’s been predicted that Burroughs would deteriorate under new coach…:..and the longer the year goes on and the greater it seems to appear .
I didnt realize that the game was this close . Burroughs still destined to a playoff spot may do well if dropped to D12 . They were league champ D7 type last year . Maybe nobody will notice .
Anyone else notice that Hoover was up 21-14 against Burroughs at half time and tied 21-21 at end of 3rd? Seems depth caught up with them in the 4th and game got away from them.
@Frustrated: Now that you have had your lady fit whats your point? Cal Preps had the game 42-3.
You should be more frustrated with your lack of brain and inability to put together a proper sentence.
El Rancho looked like El Rancho. What do you call that offensive? I think lamcers felt bad for the undersized team. They did have a 300 pound WR. They are just god awful. No defense whatsoever so ever. Fire Medrano now tired of losing to them. I can’t remember the last time my dons won. Heard the lower level never scored a point. We need out of the del rio
Another week another Alhambra blowout lose
Mid Valley
We are over here
BG
From T. Peterson: Right we got it covered. Story is posted.
1993: Downey shared the San Gabriel League Title with Paramount and Dominguez. 29 man roster. Played 17 guys the first 8 games and 16 guys the last 3 games (1 got hurt). Lost in the first round in D2 to Arcadia. Tough young men. So I guess, 28 is enough.
Very surprised with what I witnessed tonight. LS had a couple of athletes who were far superior to what El Rancho brought to the table. El Rancho looked impressive moving the ball almost the entire 1st half then #27 went down and it deflated their sails. The QB scrappy and mobile made some decent plays, if ER can get healthy watch out depending what division they land in.
Over the past decade, all public schools in the State have experienced declining enrollment.
San Marino reported an enrollment of 839 students in the 2023-24 School year. Assuming
half of the students are female, 28 – 32 players from 420 boys is about 6% to 8 playing
football. Most people do not realize how declining enrollment has impacted our local high schools. John Muir HS now has an enrollment of just over 1,000 students. If you factor in the changing demographics of the Greater SGV, you get a much clearer picture of the challenges schools and
coaches now face.
SoCal,
Trust me, at a school like San Marino, 28 is not enough, this is no All-Star team. They are no longer the Titans of yesteryear.
If every player is going one way that is 22 players. So 28 players is more than enough if all can contribute
I saw SM vs South week 1 . and the numbers were similar , maybe 30-32 players. Unfortunately, this is becoming more of a norm with many big public high schools running with numbers around 30. South had the same number of players that night …..
Cultural mores , proliferation of other sports , issues with coaches/administration on campus all contribute to this happening.
San Marino is in bad shape! 28 players bad shape! Maybe time to look at 8 man football or co-ed flag football.
Fred Robledo reported that San Marino only had 28 players! Yikes!!!
