The Chargers bolstered their secondary late last week with by signing safety Elijah Molden to a three-year, $18.5 million extension. Molden, who was a huge part of Jesse Minter’s defense last year, was acquired from the Tennessee Titans before the 2024 season.
Molden was the third safety alongside Derwin James and Alohi Gilman. Molden suffered a broken leg in Week 17 and was sorely missed in the playoff loss to the Houton Texans. Prior to the injury Molden had career highs in tackles (75) interceptions (3) and passes defended (7). His 75.6 Pro Football Focus grade ranked 12th among safeties that qualified and his PFF coverage grade was 11th.
The Chargers secondary, especially with a healthy James, was already solid and with Molden firmly entrenched in the fold it will only be that much better.

The Chargers are in a “win now” window with a quarterback in Justin Herbert that is in his prime. That means keeping him protected may be the most important thing they do on the field. Last year’s center Bradley Bozeman, who was signed to replace Corey Linsley, struggled at times with pass protection. He did play the most snaps of any offensive starter but the Chargers are looking to ugrade. A good fit would be Ryan Kelly of the Indianapolis Colts through free agency.
Kelly, who is 31, is considered one of the best blocking centers in the league. a Two-year deal for roughly $9.5 million annually with about $8 million guaranteed would suit both parties. PFF’s grade for pass-block had Kelly ranked fourth among 28 qualifying centers. Keeping Herbert upright would make it worth every penny.
Got to scroll down pretty far to find any solid Mid Valley Sports stories.
From T. Peterson: Only to last Saturday for the Temple City-Arroyo baseball game and then Friday to the SEM-Rosemead Semi-Final basketball game. Those were in fact the last “Mid Valley” events. It’s just that we post so much information now. So if the criticism is that we post too much I’ll take it. Everything that we post is addition to Mid Valley events not instead of. The CIF Basketball Finals this weekend will be covered.
