No, not that Pettis!

T-Minus-2 Days until “The Mid Valley Classic”

Good Afternoon!

After watching Boise State come back Monday night, the first thing that went through my head was; “That’s it Pettis!”

Even with poor play, some questionable calls, why would anyone, anyone prefer baseball, or basketball, to football?

Whittier Christian HC Sergio Gradilla, of course, was pleased with the play of his linebacking crew but he also thought some should take note of running back Joel Rhone’s 148 yards rushing and three touchdowns.

...This Pettis. (Austin Pettis)

Someone actually said to me this week that West Covina’s fourth quarter collapse against Covina was the equivalent of getting “Broxton’d”

Did you know that El Monte is 6-1 in season openers under Joel Sanchez?

Other than the season opener in 2008, three of the last four meetings between Arroyo and Temple City have been decided by a combined total of seven points.

Clarification: The 2008 season opened with Rams quarterback Morgan Hatch playing long ball with Gianni Bruno-Lopez in a 34-0 rout. However, back at North Field again ten weeks later TC held on for a 7-6 victory in the first round of the CIF playoffs.

Last season some guy named Chris Rodriguez made a play in the final seconds…or so I’m told.

Last Add Temple City-Arroyo: When the Rams misplayed the snap from center to quarterback on their first series of the season. No one groaned, but one individual could clearly be heard saying: “Bring back Backus!”

I knew things were tough for Bush his last couple of years in the White House but now they want his Heisman?

Do you think they’ll ask for Pat Sullivan’s? O.J.’s? Johnny Rodgers?

It is interesting to see former Moor Vai Peko starting at corner for La Habra. Of course I really won’t actually be seeing him in La Habra…I have an aversion to dudes in kilts at football games.

With seven catches and a pair of scores Burbank’s Jose Rodriguez has filled some of the void that was in the Bulldog receiving corps…and perhaps as become quarterback Adam Colman’s new best friend.

Why does it seem like Cal plays Rowland every other week?

Okay, for the record: it is “Ervin” NOT “Irvin” Crawford toting the football for Craig Snyder at Rowland.

Crawford’s another one of those guys early in the summer we were told to keep hush hush about…I think that cat is out of the bag now.

No truth to rumor Rosemead has added Samford to its non-league schedule next year…even though Matt Koffler says; “If it’s good enough for Florida State it is good enough for us…We’ll just get Fregoso going and run the double-tights…” Yada, yada, yada…

Fast Note: During the course of the Boise State-Virginia Tech game (and what was up with those Va Tech unis?) Brent Musburger says something to the effect of Boise State “reaching into its bag of tricks”… Here at The Mid there is no reaching into anyone’s bag of tricks…We pledge to never put in a story something like: “At this point James Wilson (or Steve Bogan, Joel Sanchez, Mike McFarland) reached into his bag of tricks…”

Mid Valley karma is one thing…(ask La Salle)… but pandering is quite another. I check the site out on Sunday and I see Peterson has moved Schurr up to number two in the Mid-Valley rankings…Okay, they didn’t play a down during Zero Week and got roughed up by La Canada in a scrimmage.

So why the Spartan love?

Arrive at the office early on Tuesday and sitting on the desk is a number “15” Schurr practice jersey with it labeled; “For Tim Peterson”… I see…so that’s how it works?

I’m ready to make Arcadia number one in the Old School Top 12 for a Taylor Lagace workout jersey.

Stay thirsty my friends…

(Our thoughts and prayers go out to the family and friends of Hector Urias who was killed last night at his shop in El Monte. We’ll have more on remembering Hector over the next few days.)
