Football is always an event at St. Franks.

(La Canada)-Arcadia star Taylor Lagace scored all but one of his team’s touchdowns. Lagace caught 14 balls for 172-yards and two scores, including two interceptions on defense with one on of them ending up in the end zone. The only thing he couldn’t do was win the game for his team which lost 42-27 Friday night.

St. Francis senior quarterback Brett Nelson on the other hand could do no wrong either as he managed the game flawlessly down to the last possession.

“I have no problem putting the game in his hands when the money is on the line,” said SF head coach Jim Bonds of Nelson

With less than two minutes left and an eight-point lead the senior faced a third and seven and a chance to ice the game. Nelson ran the play fake and rolled to his left connecting to an open Keith Enterante who scampered down field for the games final touchdown.

The night started out slow with both teams going three and out. Arcadia on its second drive lost grip of the ball and eventually what seemed like the game when Knight defender Parker Nieves forced a fumble and gave his team a short field to take the advantage.

Moments later Michael Melnick gave St. Francis the lead with a 15-yard run for a touchdown.

The Knights scored again when Nelson found Ian Hamilton at the end of a 41-yard touchdown pass.

Down 14, the Apaches were finally able to sustain a drive long enough to have Myles Carr hit Lagace for a 25-yard touchdown reception.

An 80-yard kickoff return by Ryan Jenkins had St. Francis knocking on the door again. This time Nelson found Travis Talianko on a 9-yard fade route in the end zone.

Both teams ended the first half with touchdown drives with the score favoring the Knights 28-13.

The Apaches caught a break when Lagace stepped in front of a Nelson passed taking it back 30-yards for a touchdown and cutting the deficit to eight.

On the ensuing SF drive Nelson was able to sneak in for a 1-yard touchdown behind a ground-oriented drive led by Melnick who carried six times during the possession.

Arcadia answered right back stringing together a 15-play drive that ended with Carr finding David Maldonado in the flat from 10-yards out for a touchdown.

The Knights began their last drive of the night looking to run the clock to a victory when Apache A.J Rail stuffed running back Austin De Los Santos 4-yards behind the line of scrimmage. The ensuing third and seven posed no challenge, as SF was able to score one last time.
