LC’s Sandhu, San-Does in win over Glendale

(La Canada)- La Canada running back Daleep Sandhu scored three touchdowns out of the Spartans “Triple Option” attack in a 40-17 victory over Glendale on Friday night.

Sandhu opened things with 5-yard run with 6:18 to play in the first quarter. Stephen Hernandez added the point after and it was 7-0 LC.

Five minutes later Kevin Stoner rushed in from 57-yards and Sandhu followed that with another 5-yard run in the second quarter.

Moments later the Spartans Michael Arkfeld intercepted Nitros quarterback Alex Yoon and returned it 40-yards for the score.

Yoon would recover and led his team into the endzone in the final minute of the first half when he connected with the talented Linden Anderson from 21-yards out. Yoon then ran the required yardage to convert the deuce and the score was 27-8 La Canada at the break.

In the third Glendale edged closer on Nick Villanpando’s 27-yard field goal and then made it 27-17 when Anthony Platero cashed in from 5-yards out with 3:04 to play in the quarter. The 2-point attempt failed.

After struggling offensively late in the second throughout most of the third, the Spartans got a lift from Sandhu, who scored is third touchdown of the night on a 6-yard run with 52 ticks left in the third.

In the fourth La Canada quarterback Scott Gray broke a tackle and went 25-yards for the game’s final score.

The Spartans, now 2-0, go to Crescenta Valley next week. Glendale, 0-2, travels to South Pasadena.
