(Monrovia) – Monrovia jumped out to a 42-0 lead at halftime and rolled to a 49-0 rout of the Roosevelt Thursday night on the Wildcats home field.

This one was actually over in the first quarter when the Cats led 28-0. There was a running clock the entire second half.

Freshman Ian Macklin did plenty of damage for Monrovia. He scored three touchdowns – one receiving, one on a punt return and one on a long run. He had three carries for 150 yards and a score and caught two passes for 60 yards and a touchdown.

Vince Amici also scored three times for the Wildcats.

Macklin hauled in a 36-yard pass from Angel Morales to start the scoring barrage in the first quarter. After Roosevelt fumbled on its own 21-yard line Monrovia was in business again. The Cats needed just four plays to find the end zone. Angel Morales scored on a three-yard keeper.

Roosevelt punted on its next possession Macklin fielded the punt, made a move and weaved his way 60 yards through the coverage for the touchdown.

Taeven White blocked a punt for Monrovia to set up the next score. Vince Amici hauled in an eight-yard touchdown pass from Morales and just like that it was 28-0 after the first quarter.

In the second quarter the Wildcats took advantage of a short field and Amici got his second score of the night on a two-yard run.

Later in the quarter Amici notched his third on an 11-yard touchdown jaunt for a 42-0 advantage at the break.

It appeared Roosevelt might finally get on the board when they used up the entire running clock in the third quarter marching down to the Monrovia three-yard line. But instead the Cats stopped Roosevelt at the three on fourth down. three plays later Macklin busted off a 92-yard touchdown run with 7:09 left in the fourth quarter.

Monrovia had one more possession and ran out the clock.

Amici finished with two touchdowns rushing and one receiving accumulating a total of 61 yards. Morales threw for 111 yards and two touchdowns and ran for 32 and a score.

The Rough Riders weren’t able to muster much offense. Cesar Alonso had 12 carries for 47 yards.

Monrovia improved to 2-1 with the victory and will host Pasadena next Friday night. Roosevelt fell to 0-3.
