(Glendora)—Glendora’s Matt Fink sparked the Tartans to a 42-28 victory over Los Altos on Friday night at Citrus College. The senior quarterback accounted for four touchdowns, three through the air and one on the ground.
In the first half the game was like a tennis match. Glendora would bang a touchdown over the net and the Conquerors would bang back a return. The Tartans took a 14-0 lead only to see Los Altos tie it. The Tartans took a 21-14 lead, LA tied it. The home team took a 28-21 lead, and Conquerers tied it just before half time.
Glendora jumped to the lead when Fink led them on a 6-play, 52 yard drive he capped with a 6-yard run. On the kick-off Tartans kicker Caleb Watkins scruffed it onside and the Los Altos players stared at it long enough for Glendora to recover at the Conquerers 48.
Five plays later Griffen Herrera cashed it in on a 2-yard run.
Tyler Nevens prevented the route when he bounced off nearly every Glendora defensive player on a third & two before going 72-yards to paydirt. Los Altos tied the score on its next position when Michael Campbell threaded a 7-yard pass to Arturo Vargas in the corner of the end zone.
The teams traded scores for the remainder of the first half, with the Conquerors getting an 18-yard fumble return for a touchdown by Andrew Guaydacan on a backwards pass thrown by Fink that hit the ground.
In the final half the Tartans offense and defense combined to limit Los Altos to just three possessions. Highlighting the defense unit was free safety Tyler Schoenick with two interceptions and a pair of sacks by linebacker Timmy Hendricks.
