(Azusa) – Concordia jumped out to a 19-9 advantage early in the contest and maintained the lead the rest of the way in a 71-61 win over Azusa Pacific Thursday night at Felix Event Center.
The Cougars got close a couple of times but never got over the hump. They cut the Eagles lead to 34-33 with three minutes left in the first half but Concordia pulled away to go up by five, 42-37, at the half.

Concordia was able to increase the margin back to 10 in the second half and were still up 58-48 with just over six minutes left. The Eagles, behind the sharp shooting of Macarhy Morris, held off APU down the stretch to get the 10-point victory.
Morris led all scorers with 20 points as he hit 7 of 13 from the field and a perfect 6 for 6 from the charity stripe. Radek Homer had 10 and Nicholas Corbett and Marcellus Edwards each scored eight. Corbett also pulled down 10 rebounds. The Eagles outrebounded the Cougars 38-31. Concordia shot 48 percent from the floor compared to 40 percent for Azusa Pacific.

DM Sanders hit a pair of three-pointers and led the way in scoring with 16 points for Azusa Pacific. Shad Thomas had 11 and 11 boards and Parker Christensen was also in double figures with 11. Caleb Oden hit a three-pointer and had nine points. However the Cougs were 4 for 17 from three-point range overall. Colton Gray, who will be suiting up for the football team in the fall, scored six points and grabbed three rebounds in 16 minutes.
For the Cougars it was their fourth consecutive loss as they dropped to 4-10 in the PacWest Conference and 6-13 overall with eight games remaining. Concordia improved to 10-6 in the PacWest and 13-9 on the season.
