Fanview Lite: September 29, 2010

Good Afternoon!

Yeah, I was thinking the same thing…These “Fanview Lite” columns have become “Fanview Obese”… We’ll work on getting this thing down from a bloated “War and Peace” to a more spartan “Great Gatsby” level…Maybe layoff the the carne asada burritos from Alfredo’s a little…

600-words…10-words, plus-minus…

“We’ve had a great week of practice,” said Monrovia HC Ryan Maddox. “It’s a short week, but South Hills is in the same boat, it’s a short week for them as well.”

While M-Town is coming into Thursday’s game on the heels 35-34 loss to San Dimas, after leading by three scores with eight minutes to play, the Huskies come home to Covina District Field after suffering a 59-6 loss to Tesoro.

“We are fired up,” said Maddox. “We have some problems to fix, but that’s adversity. Last Friday was a life lesson in team sports on how you deal with adversity. You can talk about it, but until you face it you won’t know. How you’ll react, how you’ll handle it, these moments hopefully we’ll learn from and grow through it.”

The La Serna folks were great last night.

Question: Did Lancers HC Margarito Beltran seem uncomfortable last night on the air? He did great…It’s not like he was Dan Yoder or anything…(That was a joke Mr. Yoder 🙂 )…but we practically had to put a gun to his back to get him to come on for a segment…

Note to La Serna Tight End Austin Essig:  “We gotta get that guy a catch,” says quarterback Andrew Buensrostro.

Really Big Tony? Santa Fe over Charter Oak?

***

Do you think there is a little bit of pressure building in the Pomona-Baldwin Park Valle Vista opener this week? I gotta believe the Braves make it happen…the 2010 season is on the line.

***

On this date in 1972 Muir got fourth quarter scoring runs from Kessel Thompson (35-yards) and Maurice Simpson (60-yards) to come from behind and beat Keppel in a non-league game played at the Rose Bowl.

Also, for my good friend Bonita Alum, on that same night out in La Verne Temple City got two touchdown from Mike Nanko to beat the Bearcats 34-18. It was the Rams 32nd consecutive victory in a run that would extend to 46.

Bonita did get an 86-yard kick-off return from Don Rees.

***

I like Muir 59-56 against Burbank this week…Karl Holmes will step around a Cameron Palmer pick and bury the winning three…

***

Did you know going back through the 2000 season South Hills, until last week at Tesoro, had not given up 50-points in a game?

***

What do you mean no love for Gabrielino? They were in our poll for the team of the decade (2000-2009)…and they won. We even game-by-game reviewed that entire season.

No love for Gabrielino? I’m not buying that.

***

Last Add Temple City: On this night in 1995 the Rams and Hoover battled to a 14-14 draw. TC got a 10-yard run from Brian Betts with 5:57 to play to tie the score, but were denied the victory when the Tornadoes blocked the point after.

***

Who asked when San Gabriel and Rosemead last met? JJimenez? Dude, I’ve been over this several times…These teams last met in 1981 and the Matadors won 16-6.

Going back to 1960 the Panthers lead the series 9-6.

***

Last Add Monrovia: “He shined and will be playing a larger role,” says Wildcat HC Ryan Maddox about junior running back Michael Harris. “He’s a hard working phenomenal young man who is ready to be something very special.”

Stay thirsty my friends…
