Price Shines Like Diamond

D-Ranch RB Chase Price

(Pomona) – After waiting 13 years to face each other, the “Battle of the Diamonds” on the field was a lopsided win by Diamond Ranch, 41-0.

With players knowing each other from their days of youth, the game had added meaning in the Hacienda League opener. Diamond Bar started the season with a 4-0 record and the Panthers have back to back CIF Southeast Division runner-up appearances for the title.

Diamond Ranch running backs Chase Price and Jacoby Carter combined for 370 yards rushing and will have the Brahmas fan shaking their heads after the performance they witnessed on Friday night.

Price showed why SDSU has him in the crosshairs at the next level by turning one to two-yard losses into huge gains the entire night. Price would finish with 223 yards and three touchdowns. Carter’s elusiveness complimented Price with speed. Carter closed out the contest with 147 yards and touchdown.

Early on the Brahmas found out how quick and strong Diamond Ranch as Andrew Cameron found the turf early on Price’s sack for an eight-yard loss. The opening possession also led to a Diamond Bar three and out for the offense.

The Panthers faced with a third and six early on in their first drive, called upon Price and he responded by turning a innocent two-yard gain into a 19 yard gain. Subsequent carries by both Price and Carter found Diamond Ranch at the Diamond Bar 2-yard line. Two plays later Price would find the end zone for a one-yard dive.

The Brahmas changed quarterbacks on the next possession with moderate success as they began to drive on the Panthers zone defense. Henry Omana led them with passes to George Katrib of seven and 22 yards. The drive would stall after a handoff went wrong and a sea of players attempted to corral the ball until it was final fallen by a Diamond Bar player at the Brahmas 28-yard line. Staring at a 3rd and 26, Omana found his favorite receiver in Katrib for 16 yards. The miscues continued on the punt with a bad snap leading into a run by punter Julian Ambrosine for a loss of six yards.

It would only take Diamond Ranch five plays to get another touchdown in the first quarter as Cesar Carrillo executed a nice pass to Chris Powell on fourth and five from 22 yards out.

The game never slowed down for the Brahmas against a faster team defense. Any possession Diamond Bar had was met with a “bend, don’t break” attitude by the Panthers defense. It was evident by the fact the Brahmas had no “red zone” visits until their first drive in the second half.

Cameron replaced Omana at quarterback and led Diamond Bar on a nine-play drive that stalled on a goal line stand by Diamond Ranch as the Brahmas called a draw play to Jamal Clayton from two yards out. Clayton was met by eight Panther defenders at the one-yard line to ensure the shutout.

The back-breaker came on the next drive for Diamond Ranch with a moral breaking drive of 99 yards that ate 5 minutes and 15 seconds off the clock. Price put the exclamation point on the drive with a seven-yard run to give the Panthers a 26-0 lead.

Carter would add to the route on their ensuing offensive possession with a school tying record 95-yard run from scrimmage.

On Diamond Bar’s next possession Cameron went back to pass and threw into the arms of Diamond Ranch’s Marquise Cherry who returned the interception 65-yards for a touchdown.

The Panthers could have added another score very late in the game but Price fumbled the ball out of the end zone as he was fighting for the goal line.
