Last week I wrote about the officiating, or lack there of in local high school football. This week I will be going to a completely different topic, the NFL.

The biggest story in the NFL this week wasn’t rookie Arizona Cardinal quarterback Max Hall leading his team to a 30-20 victory over the Super Bowl Champion New Orleans Saints, though it is an amazing story of an underdog and proof in the NFL it can all come down to any given Sunday (pun intended).

The biggest story was the trading of Randy Moss from the New England Patriots to the Minnesota Vikings for a third round draft pick.

It’s ironic that one of the most elite receivers in the history of the sport has only been traded twice for mid-round draft picks. Even more ironic it’s to his original team, the team where it all began for the lanky receiver from Marshall.

Is it that coaches and organizations get so sick of him they trade him for so little? Or is it that the teams who get him are so lucky to get such a talent for so little. I prefer to think it is the former mixed in with a little bit of the latter.

When the news first broke of the potential trade, Vikings fans everywhere peed themselves, rightfully so. When it became official Las Vegas changed the odds on the Vikes. Again deservedly so, the Minnesota passing attack is now one of the most, if not the most, prominent ones in the NFL. With Moss and Sidney Rice (when he returns) out wide, Percy Harvin in the slot, and Adrian Peterson in the backfield the options for the pass are limitless. Oh yeah Brett Favre the greatest quarterback in the NFL’s history is throwing the ball.

No defense in their right mind would want to try and match up against that offense, and no defense really can match up to that offense.

Then we got to see it all in action on Monday Night Football against the New York Jets at New Meadowlands Stadium.

Yes the Vikings lost, on a Favre interception no less. Yes the Jets defense shut down the Vikes attack for two and a half quarters. But then it got started. In the second half Favre threw for three touchdowns and close to 200 yards. It was a matter of minutes and the Vikings were back in the game.

It was almost like the team was on a playing field in heaven for the moments the Minnesota offense was clicking. They were untouchable.

Fittingly enough Favre threw his 500th touchdown pass of his career on his best pass of the night, to Randy Moss. Another vote getter for the biggest story in the NFL this past week.

To get to my main point now though is how can the league and other teams allow this stacking of a team to happen? Through negligence maybe? I don’t know. What I do know is it happened and we are all in for a wild ride for the rest of the season.

What do you think? I believe Moss is the most underrated overrated wide out in NFL history. Do you agree?
