Apache Mayhem in Burbank

By Rick Fruchey

(Burbank)- In a season quickly gaining a label of “redemption” Arcadia went to Memorial Field on Friday night and defeated the Burbank Bulldogs 48-20 in a Pacific League showdown.

A bench clearning brawl early on was quelled by the officials but the price tag was high for both schools. For Bank Quortney Brazier was given the gate and for the Apaches it was Taylor Lagace.

While Lagace is the bread and butter for Arcadia, it took the sails out of the Bulldogs. The Apaches on the other hand did not let up. Offensively accounting for 361 yards on offense, but the contest was won with hard hitting that produced one turnover after another.

With 2:47 left in the first quarter Arcadia blocked a punt that traveled out the back of the end zone for a safety.

Four minutes later Myles Carr went 25-yards to Everett Frazier to make it 9-0 in favor of the visitors.

The lead went to 16-0 when back up quarterback Brian Ponce came in to finish another Apache drive with a 1-yard run.

With 7:42 Carr hooked up with Sam Crabtree for 9-yard touchdown pass and the rout was clearly on.

Burbank finally responded with Adam Colman going 35-yard to Jose Rodriguez…but if the Bulldogs hope to capture some momentum going into the locker room it was quickly squashed when Arcadia added a 7-yard run by Rodney Arnett and a field goal to make it 33-7 at the half.

Bank and Bank fans go their best site of the night early in the third quarter when Ulises Ochoa, who missed the previous week’s contest, scored on a 63-yard run.

Three minutes later however the Apaches responded with Sheldon McKinley’s 6-yard run. After adding a deuce on the conversion it was 41-14 in favor of the visitors.

In the fourth the teams traded scores. Carr again went to Frazier this time for a 12-yard score and Ochoa scored on an 88-yard to please the home crowd.

Burbank is now 3-1 in the Pacific and 5-2 overall, while Arcadia improved to 3-1 in league, 4-3 overall.
