El Monte OC Brian Tabatabai coaches up Steven Cabrera

(San Gabriel) – El Monte rallied for 24 straight second half points to overcome a 12 point halftime deficit and beat Gabrielino 31-19 Friday night.
The Lions scored first on an 8 yard run by Michael Jimenez to go up 7-0. But Gabrielino responded with 19 points of its own to take a 19-7 halftime lead.
Eddie Moreno intercepted a pass and returned it to the house and later Isaac Garcia found Moreno on a 70 yard pass play for a touchdown. Both extra points were missed but the Eagles were up 12-7.
After an El Monte turnover, Gabrielino took advantage when Garcia broke loose for an 84 yard touchdown run.
The Eagles were in control until the Lions roared back in the fourth quarter scoring 24 unanswered points.
El Monte remains unbeaten in the Mission Valley League at 2-0 and 3-4 overall. Gabrielino falls to 0-2 and 3-4.
