A Closer Look at the……

Beginning today we look at the body work, players and projections for each league.

The body work is their win/loss record and how it holds up against others in the league and Southeast Division. We will look at some of the standout players during the previous week or season. The Mid will also project where they may finish with the remainder of the schedule left.

La Serna (6-1, 2-0) – We heard rumblings of how good the Lancers were going to be this season and have been overly impressed by their season to date.

BODY OF WORK: 25-25 overall record of opponents, 3-0 against teams with winning records.

Signature Wins: Wilson-Long Beach (Pac-5) 5-2, La Mirada (Southeast) 4-3

Signature Loss: Downey (Western) 4-3

Games Remaining:  10/29 @ Pioneer, 11/05 vs Whittier, 11/11 @ California (5-16 record remaining opponents)

Player of the Week: O.J. Medina – He scored on a 97-yard run and help lead the route of Santa Fe.

Projection: First

El Rancho (5-2, 1-1) – Dons got down against Pioneer and still pulled through for the win. El Rancho is still searching for that elusive “signature” win in 2010.

BODY OF WORK: 14-28 overall record of opponents, 1-2 against teams with winning records.

Signature Wins: Pioneer (Southeast Division) 4-3

Signature Loss: None

Games Remaining:  10/29 vs. California, 11/05 @ Santa Fe, 11/12 vs Whittier (4-17 record remaining opponents)

Player of the Week: Daniel Moriel – setup a touchdown drive with a punt return, along with helping stop Pioneer running back Tony Botello from getting over 100 yards rushing on the evening.

Projection: Second

Santa Fe (4-3, 1-1) – Good news for Chief fans is the defense. Throw out the 38 point debacle to La Serna and you have a very solid team. Holding Bonita and Charter Oak to less than 21 points is incredible as they are both offensive juggernauts.

BODY OF WORK: 27-23 overall record of opponents, 1-2 against teams with winning records.

Signature Wins: Pioneer (Southeast Division)

Signature Loss: Esperanza (Southwest Division) 3-5

Games Remaining:  10/29 @ Whittier, 11/05 vs. El Rancho 11/11 @ Pioneer (9-12 record remaining opponents)

Player of the Week: Alex Mirola – was the only bright spot of an offense that struggled all night. Although the offense struggled, Mirola was able to amass over

Projection: Third

Pioneer (4-3, 1-1) – Dark horse of the Del Rio, probably needs to go 2-1 to get into the playoffs. Problem is that two of three remaining games are against La Serna and Santa Fe.

BODY OF WORK: 17-27 overall record of opponents, 0-3 against teams with winning records.

Signature Wins: None

Signature Loss: Sunny Hills (Southwest Division) 4-3

Games Remaining:  10/29 vs. La Serna, 11/04 @ California, 11/11 vs. Pioneer (10-11 record remaining opponents)

Player of the Week: Tony Botello – Only had 81 yards rushing for the night, but scored two touchdowns to keep the Titans in the game.

Projection: Fourth

California (1-6, 1-1) – Don’t count out Jim Arnold’s Condor team out just as his players got valuable game action. California lost too many players last year and needed the experience of varsity football.

BODY OF WORK: 24-26 overall record of opponents, 0-4 against teams with winning records.

Signature Wins: None

Signature Loss: None

Games Remaining:  10/29 @El Rancho, 11/04 vs. Pioneer, 11/11 vs La Serna (9-6 record remaining opponents)

Player of the Week: Aaron Garcia – The running back had 99 yards and a touchdown in the win against Whittier.

Projection: Fifth

Whittier (0-7, 0-2) – Walter Scott has had a nightmarish season as they continue to toil with a winless season. The Cardinals best shot at a win was last week against California.

BODY OF WORK: 35-14 overall record of opponents, 0-6 against teams with winning records.

Signature Wins: None

Signature Loss: None

Games Remaining:  10/29 vs. Santa Fe, 11/05 vs. La Serna, 11/12 @ El Rancho (14-7 record remaining opponents)

Player of the Week: Christopher Barclay – Ran for a score to keep the game closer than it appeared.

Projection: Sixth
