(El Monte) Matt Fregoso ran for 360 yards and 3 touchdowns carrying the Rosemead Panthers to a 38-12 victory over Mt. View Friday night at Viking Stadium.
The Panther defense played a big role in the game as well, holding the Vikings to only 150 rush yards.
Rosemead got on the board in the first quarter after a 74 yard drive led by Fregoso was capped off by a quarterback sneak by Matt Macias.
In the second, after an Andrew Gibson touchdown for Rosemead and a Jose Zamora 5-yard run to paydirt for View made the score 14-6, Fregoso ran for an 88 yard touchdown on the first play of the Panther drive. Rosemead would add a field goal before the end of the half to make it 24-6 Mead. Fregoso had 263 yards at the half.
Fregoso came out in the third and basically sealed it for the Panthers with the addition of two more touchdowns in the Panthers two drives out of the half, the first for 8 yards and the second for 11.
View would sneak in another touchdown by Robert Ramos in the fourth to make the final 38-12 Rosemead.
The win puts Rosemead at 2-1 and back on track in Mission Valley league play after last week’s loss to Arroyo. They’ll face a struggling South El Monte squad next week. Mountain View stays home to play Gabrielino next week in their homecoming as they look to attain their fifth win.
