Wildcats Maul Rams

(Pasadena) – After being shut out the in the first quarter, Monrovia routed Temple City 40-0 on Friday night at Maranatha High School.

The Monrovia offense had no problem driving the ball in its first three possessions, but could not produce any points.  Nick Bueno began the first drive with runs of 23 and nine yards to place the Wildcats at the Rams 13 yard line.  After being forced out of the pocket, Bueno threw the ball under pressure and was picked off by Tyler Roach. The next two drives ended with a missed field goal and a turnover on downs.

From the second quarter on it was all Wildcats.  After forcing the Rams to punt for the third time, Bueno returned the punt 35 yards for a touchdown to finally put the Wildcats on the board.

While the Rams were still struggling on offense, the Wildcats offense continued their attack.  Starting from its own two yard line, Monrovia went into its two-minute offense and found success in its passing attack.

Receiver Jay Henderson produced a huge third down conversion when he caught a 21 yard pass.  Bueno then connected with Luke Williams and Anthony Craft with passes of 15 and 23 yards respectfully, before finding Luke Williams open in the end zone on a 23 yard strike to close out the second quarter.

The Wildcats offense was able to keep the momentum in the second half, scoring touchdowns on four straight drives.  To open the second half, Bueno threw deep to Anthony Craft who ran it in for a touchdown on a 53 yard play.

Temple City’s offense never found its groove.  Josh Simangunsong was held to 39 yards on 15 rushes while the offense was held to 65 total yards by the Wildcat starting defense.

“Our defense is playing great… it’s a team effort we just have to keep working to get better,” said head coach Ryan Maddox.  “We have to keep improving week in and week out… and hopefully win another league championship.”

Next week Monrovia (6-2) travels to South Pasadena and Temple City (3-5) hosts Blair.
