Closer Look at the Del Rio League

We are now left with two weeks of regular season football before the playoffs start. The jockeying begins for seeds and league standings.

The Titans got up close and personal with how good La Serna is on offense and defense on Friday.

El Rancho dropped a crucial game against California and now faces a must-win against Santa Fe.

Santa Fe needed a comeback to beat winless Whittier. A win against the Dons will get them one step closer to the playoffs.

We still think the three entering last week as the top three get in.

DEL RIO LEAGUE

La Serna (7-1, 3-0) – By the time the playoffs roll around there may be no room on the bandwagon for the Lancers. They made easy work of Pioneer with the second-string in the game the second half.

BODY OF WORK: 33-32 overall record of opponents, 5-1 against teams with winning records.

Signature Wins: Wilson-Long Beach (Pac-5) 5-3, La Mirada (Southeast) 5-3

Signature Loss: Downey (Western) 4-4

Games Remaining:  11/05 vs Whittier, 11/11 @ California (2-14 record remaining opponents)

El Rancho (5-3, 1-2) – Something not funny happened on the Dons way to the playoffs. El Rancho faltered against California and now must begin the playoffs this week against Santa Fe.

BODY OF WORK: 24-40 overall record of opponents, 1-2 against teams with winning records.

Signature Wins: None

Signature Loss: None

Games Remaining:  11/05 @ Santa Fe, 11/12 vs Whittier (4-12 record remaining opponents)

Santa Fe (4-4, 2-1) – Well last week could have been the nail in the coffin for the Chiefs who were down 18-7 at one point to Whittier. Santa Fe should some heart and battled back for the win and now is set to play El Rancho this week.

BODY OF WORK: 31-34 overall record of opponents, 1-3 against teams with winning records.

Signature Wins: None

Signature Loss: Esperanza (Southwest Division) 3-6

Games Remaining:  11/05 vs. El Rancho 11/11 @ Pioneer (9-7 record remaining opponents)

Pioneer (4-4, 1-2) – The shock of its loss to La Serna will be known against California. If the Titans are still licking its wounds, the Condors will be in prime position of defeating them.

BODY OF WORK: 27-38 overall record of opponents, 0-4 against teams with winning records.

Signature Wins: None

Signature Loss: Sunny Hills (Southwest Division) 4-4

Games Remaining:  11/04 @ California, 11/11 vs. Santa Fe (10-11 record remaining opponents)

California (2-6, 2-1) – The Condors aren’t out of the playoff race by any means, especially with the win against El Rancho. A win against Pioneer all but closes the door on the Titan season.

BODY OF WORK: 24-26 overall record of opponents, 1-4 against teams with winning records.

Signature Wins: None

Signature Loss: None

Games Remaining:  11/04 vs. Pioneer, 11/11 vs La Serna (11-5 record remaining opponents)

Whittier (0-8, 0-4) – Some life was spotted in Cardinal country last Friday against Santa Fe. Problem is that the game is 48 minutes and not 24 and they dropped a heartbreaker.

BODY OF WORK: 40-22 overall record of opponents, 0-7 against teams with winning records.

Signature Wins: None

Signature Loss: None

Games Remaining:  11/05 vs. La Serna, 11/12 @ El Rancho (12-4 record remaining opponents)
