Is it true one prominent...PROMINENT...member of the local sports scene was bedazzling fans with flashy jean wear on Friday night?... My lips are sealed but his initials are F.R.

Good Afternoon!

Is it fair to say an out-gunned Walnut team in the Hacienda has hung on like grim death to a possible invite to the big dance?… There are players on this team beyond Aubrey Coleman (and Coleman is a great one)…that every coach would love to have…I admire them…

So what do you do? Do you take San Dimas after the bye…or do you go with red hot Covina this week?

I don’t know…Both school have purchased significant karma (then again karma ain’t what it used to be)…The defending champs or the ultra talented Colts…Codee Watts or Billy Livingston?

Mmm? This might be a Saturday morning decision.

Patrick Martin is still grinding out yardage for South Pasadena, Conor Bednarski is having a solid season…but the loss to La Canada in the Rio Hondo League opener is going to bite the Tigers in the tail…

South Pas One More Time: Monrovia will work SP, like they have been working all of the teams in the Rio Hondo…So for the Tigers a playoff birth will come down to a season ending match up with Temple City at home.

Last Add South Pas: October 29, 1976…La Canada beat El Monte 23-13, Pasadena beat Alhambra 7-0, and El Rancho beat Arcadia 28-7….Oh and South Pasadena beat Temple City 17-7 at home…So what does that have to do with the price of lettuce?

It was the last time the Tigers beat the Rams at home…SAY WHAT! … I said it was the last time they beat TC at home…1976…34 years ago…

Is there anything that can be said or written to make El Rancho feel better or worse after its loss to California? Give credit to Jim Arnold’s Condors but this game was one big OUCH for The Ranch.

West Covina over Diamond Ranch…

Burroughs at Muir this week…and the warm smell of colitas rising up in the air…Don’t know which staffer is covering this game, but he’s going to have a serious case of the munchies afterwards…By halftime they’ll be listening to the fiddlers…

Thank you Monrovia for not getting upset by Temple City…That sort of upheaval would have involved the office of Homeland Security and the red tape would have never ended.

Any one taking Bell Gardens lightly going forward does so at their own risk…The Lancers hit, and Josh Adame is a legitimate quarterback.

Note to Maranatha & El Monte: Set the schedule…Week Five, 2011…Fans in The Mid want to see this game…

Sad to hear about the passing of former NBA power forward deluxe Maurice Lucas… My strongest memory of him is from the 1976-77 season when Portland and Philadelphia met in the finals.

The Trailblazers’ Lucas and the 76ers Darryl Dawkins drew fists at center court when a fight broke out in Game Two…But like most heavyweight bouts of the time not a punch was thrown. Portland won the series 4-2 in what was considered a big upset.

Since my lunch at Armando’s with him back in the spring…(on Zeke Prado’s dime)…I’ve been a fan of San Gabriel’s Arthur Brown…My only contention is where would you list him on an all-league team? … Forget all-league (those things are comical…I was Back of the Year in the Mission Valley in 2002)… Where would you place Brown on an all-area team? He does everything very well…and I don’t think running “The Wild Chollo” last Friday night will be his signature.

On this date in 1991 Muir’s Saladin McCullough returned a punt 81-yards for a score to spark the Mustangs to a 28-0 victory over Arcadia. McCullough finished the campaign with over 1,500 yards rushing and 20 touchdowns and Muir advanced to the semifinals.

You might not see him play football again this year, but mark me down as a big fan of Minuteman stud Chris Cornell.

Richard Alvarez is just another reason to see La Serna as a deep CIF threat later this month…

Cantwell will be without quarterback Ray Espinoza for the rest of the season…

All of the other games were important, everyone of them, but Norwalk’s game this week with La Mirada is the one the Lancers have been pointing to for almost a year. Not super familiar with the Suburban League other than the Matadores recent rise and Mayfair’s long time dominance, but I gotta believe Norwalk is ready to go postal this Friday.

Essentially the stats submitted to MaxPreps become the accepted cannon for historical purposes…So yes, history will record Matt Fregoso rushed for 401 yards against Mt. View on October 29, 2010.

If you haven’t seen Fregoso glide…you are missing something…

Stay thirsty my friends…
