Where did the season go? We’re already going into week nine and I feel like I just started writing this column last week. Teams are starting to smell the playoffs and the cream continues to rise to the top. Among the Old School teams the top three look like playoff contenders; especially Monrovia looking to go to the finals two years in a row. Let’s see how the Old School stacks up.
.) Monrovia (6-2) – A nice win against an upstart Temple City squad, shutting them out and completely shutting down Joshua Simangunsong.
.) Arroyo (7-1) – Throttled Gabrielino and will do the same this week hosting El Monte.
.) Arcadia (5-3) – Racked up 210 yards rushing as a team to nearly shutout Hoover and will probably double that against a winless Glendale team this week.
.) Rosemead (5-3) – Matt Fregoso ran for 360-yards and three scores against a Mountain View team has a pretty good running attack of its own.
.) El Monte (4-4) – Three league wins in a row but four will be tough with Arroyo coming to play.
.) Alhambra (3-5) – The loss to Montebello comes at a bad time, two straight losses in league dim playoff hopes.
.) Temple City (3-5) – Were shutout by M-Town but can still finish .500 with Blair and South Pas next on the docket.
.) Mountain View (4-4) – Look for Jossymar Ulloa and company to run wild on Gabrielino.
.) San Gabriel (3-5) – Close loss to Bell Gardens is tough to swallow. Big games with Alhambra and Schurr ahead.
10. Gabrielino (3-5) – The trend continues, huge loss this time to Arroyo.
.) South El Monte (1-7) – Had no answer for the Lion’s offense in the Griffin Bowl allowing over 500-yards offense.
.) Duarte (0-7) – Better I leave this one alone.
