Joe Torosian

Good Evening!

I wasn’t sure at first, but after seeing that thing cruise over the Pacific on Monday I knew right away it wasn’t a missile or a flying saucer. It was Jack Clark’s homer off Tom Nidenfur in game six of the 1985 National League Championship Series completing its orbit of the solar system

Why are people so into fantasy football? What a waste of time…

I’m going on a Dude Diet this week…

No, I will still eat all of the meats and stuff that’s bad for me…but I plan on refraining from using the word DUDE for the week…Unless of course I’m talking about “The Dude” Covina’s Vinney Venegas… We’ll see how it goes, but no matter it will go better than it did for the Dallas Cowboys on Sunday night…What a special sight that was…Christmas in November.

Did you know (its been a while since we’ve talked about this) that El Monte and Rosemead used to play for a gold colored football called “The Perpetual Trophy”?

Yes they did, but somewhere along the way in the mid-1970’s interest was lost. The trophy is currently gathering dust in the El Monte Historical Museum…

Friday night’s match up between the Panthers and the Lions should come down to two teams with solid offensive lines punching holes in the defenses. Each team has an elite back. Mead’s Matt Fregoso you may have heard about, but the Lions Michael Jimenez has had a breakout year…

Speaking of great backs…Mike Vasquez is now the all-time leading rusher in Arroyo history. He has passed Darren MacLellan and will finish his career with over 3,000 yards by the time the Knights are done with week ten and the playoffs…

Great backs one more time: This has become an annual event, but it still bears mentioning. Temple City’s Josh Simangunsong has become the 13th consecutive running back at the school to clear a 1,000 yards.

(1998: Jamil Frazier, 1999: Kevin Brown, 2000: Herman Wagner, 2001: Antonio Wagner, 2002: Desmond Reed, 2003: Kenji Morinaga, 2004: Tshun Tsai, 2005: Tshun Tsai, 2006: Dwight Broadnax, 2007: Williams Do, 2008: Max Ruckle, 2009: Max Ruckle.)

M-Town’s Nick Bueno has accounted for 26 touchdowns through nine games this season. He’s thrown for 16, rushed for eight, and caught two…SAY WHAT!… I said he’s caught two for touchdowns…

Last Add Bueno: He’s 70 yards short of a 1,000 yards for the second consecutive season. In 2009 Bueno picked up 1,461 yards on the ground.

Stats One More Time: I don’t want to put the hex on him, but Arcadia’s Myles Carr has only thrown three interceptions this season…And only one since week one…

Last Add Carr: The Arcadia quarterback is averaging a touchdown pass every six completions.

Really Last Add Carr: And before you think all 17 of his touchdown passes have gone to Taylor Lagace, think again. Carr has thrown scoring passes to six different receivers. Lagace has caught six, and tight end John Wong four.

Oh, I’ve always been a hockey fan.

“He’s the real deal,” said another Mid-Valley Division football coach to me last night about Schurr quarterback Aaron Cantu…The Spartans have been a high-wire act all season, and Cantu has produced more miracles than Moses.

I think I can get into Wednesday night football…More schools ought to take a look at it going forward…

If Muir loses to Pasadena at the Rose Bowl…We’ve got problems…and that’s putting it mildly…Still the Bulldogs, written off countless times, have kept themselves in the mix for ten weeks.

Same for Mountain View…It’s been 29 years since they last beat Arroyo…They are not going to beat the Knights this week…They will finish 5-5, but View has been relevant for ten weeks. They’ve stayed in the discussion…Given the history and background of the program that’s a heck of an accomplishment.

Stay thirsty my friends…
