Old School Top 12

What a way to end the year. There were a few minor upsets and round one has arrived with some of the Oldschool playoff bound in style. Some crushed its opponents regularly, see: Monrovia; some got lucky, see: Temple City; while others well…better luck next year, see: Duarte.

.) Monrovia (8-2) – The Wildcats ended the season on an 7-0 run and get a walkover in Gladstone for the opening round of CIF.

.) Arroyo (9-1) – The Knights dominated nearly everyone in front of them and their second toughest opponent all season will come in round one of CIF against the reigning Mid Valley champs, San Dimas; a tough way to open the playoffs for a team that played so well all season.

.) Arcadia (7-3) – Its lone league blemish came at the hands of Burroughs in overtime. A stout running attack in Norwalk looms in the opening round. The key to victory will be containing one Elijhaa Penny.

.) Rosemead (7-3) – Head Coach Matt Koffler has to be happy with how his team is coming into the opening round, especially his stud running back Matt Fregoso who went off on El Monte last week racking up 336-yards and six scores.

.) San Gabriel (5-5) – The Mats had an up and down season and its two victories against league winner Schurr and Alhambra weren’t enough to save the season.

.) Temple City (4-6) – In a strange twist of fate the Rams find themselves in the playoffs with a beatable opponent in Rosemead, a team they took to the brink only to come up short, 29-28 in week five.

.) El Monte (4-6) – Tailback Michael Jimenez closed out his senior season with one of his best prep performances accounting for 280-yards rushing and two scores.

.) Mountain View (5-5) – Is James Wilson coach of the year? Perhaps…the Vikings finished .500. Let me say it again, the Vikings finished .500!

.) Alhambra (4-6) – After winning four games in a row the Moors went on to lose four in a row.

.) Gabrielino (4-6) – Only league victory came against South El Monte.

.) South El Monte (1-9) – The Eagles were a catastrophe all season and help isn’t anywhere in site.

.) Duarte (0-9) – The Falcons were shut out seven times and only scored 13 points all season. Paging Wardell Crutchfield…
