Colts Win Azusa Tourney; Vikings Take Third

Things were looking up for Covina in Azusa

(Azusa) – Covina held off a late rally to beat Chino 59-53 Friday to win the Azusa Tournament.

Nino Harrell hit a clutch three pointer with 36 seconds left to give Covina a 55-49 lead to help ice the victory. The Colts led 30-13 at halftime but saw the lead disappear as Chino scored the first 11 points of the third quarter in what eventually turned into a 21-5 run.

The Cowboys got as close as three before Harrell’s long distance bombed sealed it for the Colts.

Jon Milian and Samuel Holmes each scored 20 for Chino. 18 of Milian’s points came in the second half. No other Cowboy was in double figures.

Covina’s Mike Peters took Tournament MVP honors. He scored 10 points in the clincher.

 Mountain View 48 Temple City 31

Mt. View outscored Temple City 17-4 in the third quarter and went on to beat the Rams 48-31 Friday to take third place at Azusa.  

The Vikings led by only one (18-17) at the half but blitzed the Rams in the third and then held serve in the fourth.

Jordan Hill had 15 for TC but no other Ram finished in double figures. Caleb Halversen had 7.
