(El Monte) – Arcadia bounced back quickly after a tough loss last night to defeat Monrovia 59-38 for third-place in the Lady Knights Classic at Arroyo High School.

The Apaches used a 20-point second quarter to pull away from the Lady Cats who continued to struggle on offense for the second consecutive night.

Juliana Okamoto scored a game-high 20 points and Joy Kang had 16 points enroute to Arcadia’s victory.

Joelle Tucker led Monrovia with 14 points with Tucker going three for three in the final quarter.

Twice during the game, the Apaches put the clamps on the Lady Cats offense and had 9-0 runs to pull away in the second and third quarter.

Monrovia which started out slowly against Bishop Amat yesterday, managed to have a repeat by shooting poorly from the field and only scoring 13 of its 38 points in the first half.

Named to the All-tournament team for her timely shooting, Okamoto hit a three to stop the Lady Cats from beginning any sort of comeback after Gina Henderson had made five straight points to cut the lead to 15 points.

Henderson struggled all night with Arcadia managing to double-team for most of the game. Henderson had no points in the third quarter but still managed to have 12 points in the game.
