Andrea Villanueva played tenacious defense against Sonora.

(El Monte) – For the ninth time in 16 years Bishop Amat lifted the Lady Knight’s Classic Trophy with a 45-33 win over Sonora.

It was the second straight time that the Lancers defeated the Raiders in Arroyo High Schools annual tournament.

Bishop Amat used a suffocating defense that allowed just one point in the second quarter, which was mere seconds from pitching a shut-out if not for Lauren Nakahara’s free-throw.

A relatively close game after the first quarter which saw Jasmine Hills scored six of her 13 points for Sonora and allowed them the lead heading into the second quarter at 12-10.

That would be the only lead that the Raiders enjoyed as the Lancers went on a 13-1 run to end the half with Leticia Galarza heating up the cold gym with eight points in the first half. Galarza finished with 15 points and led all players.

Andrea Villanueva helped the Bishop Amat cause by playing a very steady point-guard by holding Chelsea Walton to just two points in the game.

The Lancers managed to blow the game wide-open in the third quarter with an 8-3 run that slowed by Margo Campos three-pointer near the end of the third quarter.

Galarza and Villanueva took over the final quarter pouring in 11 points combined to close out Sonora.
