On The Couch: June 18, 2009

I will start on a couple of positive notes for today.
Congratulations Laker fans.  You were able to keep the peace and for the most part act like adults for the Championship Parade.  I said I would keep it positive for the first couple of thoughts.  So won’t mention what was seen on the local freeway when it got backed up.

Guessing everyone heard that Kobe was coming back.  I am well aware of the fact that he is in a opt-out year, but it didn’t take a brain surgeon to figure he would be back.

First order of business for the Lakers is to re-sign Trevor Ariza to a long-term contract.  I can’t say the same for Lamar Odom who had a very good playoff series.  Ariza is much younger and it could be that Odom’s best years are behind him.  Not to mention he played with a bad back all playoff series.

Even though the Dodgers lost last night, they may have finally convinced me that they are better than first impression.

I am still of the opinion that the Los Angeles are a bunch of Punch and Judy hitters without the Manny (see keeping it positive) in the line-up.  What is scary with the line-up is that they have too many hitters that bat for a high average.

The middle of the lineup is definitely not a modern version of “Murder’s Row” but at no time did it appear the Oakland A’s were going to win that game last night.  It took a Matt Kemp double play to squash what could of been a huge inning.

My head scratching thought came when John Scanlan’s favorite Dodger, Juan Pierre attempted a drag bunt down the first-base line with two-outs and a runner on third.  Pierre was batting .333 and can’t imagine why they didn’t allow him to swing away.

Can someone please tell me who let John Scanlan back in the building?
