High School Quarterback Vol. 7

As the Mid Valley draft is now over it is time to put the seniors in the back seat and start thinking and predicting which underclassmen are going to fill those vacant starting roles.

Sophomore quarterback Mikal Quintanilla could be set for an exciting junior season. I saw Quintanilla play week two at Alhambra. He was very impressive especially in his final drive.

“TC down six began its last drive from its own 20 line with 2:40 left in the game. Ram quarterback Mikal Quintanilla completed three straight passes moving his team down to the Moor 47-yard line.

Facing a fourth and three, Quintanilla found tight-end Tim Sanderson for 12-yard strike to keep the drive alive.”

His late drive abilities left a lasting imprint in my mind. Yes, he will need to work on some mechanics and footwork within the pocket but his ability outside the pocket is a definite plus. Look for him to have much improvement for this upcoming season.

Quintanilla will be needing the help of a solid run game that has lost senior running back Joshua Simangunsong who was yet another TC thousand yard back. He ran for 1,376 yards and scored 17 touchdowns. They hope to have returners Roger Tsung and Jaime Dea can fit the same mold.

Arcadia’s Myles Carr threw for a very impressive 25 TD’s to just 4 interceptions. Carr is also returning set to make a splash as his top rated receiver Taylor Lagace returns as well to solidify their passing tandem in the Pacific League.

Arcadia was 6-1 in the Pacific outscoring its league opponents 273-98.  What seemed help the Apache offense was its ability to have a balanced attack between the run and passing game. Soon to be Junior Sheldon McKinley rushed 709 yards scoring six touchdowns.

This week marks the beginning of an era, the beginning of the “No Huddle” show featuring the young guns Josh Ouellette and of course yours truly Sunshine Saile. Keep sending us your highlights and if you have the inside scoop on your favorite teams give us a holler and don’t forget to comment on topics you’d like to hear or have us discuss.

Receiver Andrew Rosales from La Serna was the latest to grace the website in the form of a posted highlight video. Not only did I feel like fist pumping throughout the video due to the hypnotizing techno background music, I was intrigued with Rosales’ skills at both DB and wide out. On the offensive he reminded me of a Donald Driver type possession receiver who could also break into the open field with hard nosed running.

On a final note my Orlando Magic came up with an impressive victory over the defending champion Lakers. Made my day. Speaking about basketball, be sure to check out Matt “Matty Ice” Schuler’s “At the Buzzer” as he is our resident basketball expert.
