(El Monte) – The two and a half hour drive to El Monte didn’t slow down Devonte Jackson who had 19 points to lead Tahquitz to a 48-42 win over Mountain View Wednesday night in the first round of the CIF Division 4AA Playoffs.

The Vikings came out strong taking an early first quarter lead with tough defense. Tahquitz fought back with the help of Johnathan Rodriguez and led 14-10 after one quarter of play.

Both teams fought back and forth in the second quarter with the Vikings coming within one point of the lead. A three-pointer from David Walker gave the Titans a 22-17 halftime advantage.

Jeremy Acosta and Joe Angelo put in work in the second half keeping View in the game. The Vikings kept cutting the lead down to one but couldn’t get over the hump.

Two fourth quarter three pointers by Brian Carrillo and tough rebounding by Ryan Marquett helped Tahquitz seal the win.

Acosta finished with 10 points and 5 rebounds while Angelo had 11 and 7. Season leading scorer Eric Martinez was held in check with only 2 points and 3 rebounds, Cesar Yerena chipped in with 6 points for the View.

Rodriguez finished with 14 points, Carrillo and Marquett added 6 and 4 respectively for the Titans who move on to the second round to face Windward.
