A slow start to the quarterfinals, didn’t stop Bonita’s run in the CIF Division 3A playoffs as they battled from 10 points down in the first quarter to defeat Palos Verdes 53-43 Wednesday night. The Bearcat faithful had to endure a nail-biting first half that saw the Sea Kings outscore Bonita 24-21.
Nikki Wheatley led the Bearcats back in the second half with a team high 19 points and the inside presence of Brianna Kennedy added 16.
It wasn’t until the fourth quarter that Bonita asserted itself as the better team by outscoring Palos Verdes 21-8.
Junior Kelsey Brockway tried to get the Sea Kings back into the game but fell short. Brockway ended the night with 16 points.
Victoria Yueronich led all scorers with 22 points in a losing effort.
