Joe Torosian

Good Morning!

You mean the NBA playoffs are still more than a week away? Really? This season feels longer than the checkout line at Ralphs.

***

San Gabriel commences its four-way tosses this coming Saturday. Joining the Matadors will be Cathedral with Hayden Rettig and El Cid’s Roosevelt Roughriders.

Oh, yeah, Roybal…

Can somebody get Steve Nash a cheeseburger?

Speaking of trades…If it could be allowed, if all parties could agree to it…the trade should be an option in high school football…What seems to happen, quite often, after a program graduates out a bunch of players? The talented underclassman left behind is feeling like he’s on an island.

Example: Think Joe Morales at South El Monte in the spring of 2006 following the Eagles semifinal run the previous fall. Morales moved on to St. Paul.

Or a player, caught in a logjam, looking for some playing time.

Example: All those guys at West Covina who share the rock with Chris Solomon.

Wouldn’t Arcadia’s Rodney Arnett be a nice fit in San Gabriel or El Monte…The Apaches could deal him for a couple of young freshmen.

Nice.

Utah’s Gordon Hayward played so well against the Lakers last night because the pressure was off…For the last three weeks he’s looked like the dork that left the Butler program too early.

Then Monday night happened, and he’s escaped being part of a team now being compared to Blanking Kurt Bevacqua.

***

First Add West Covina: The Bulldogs open next season and defense of their CIF crown against Covina. After coughing up the 2010 season opener to the Colts, WestCo won 13 consecutive games.

The best part of the 2011 game is it will be played on a Saturday night at Covina District Field.

***

The next big thing along the West Covina offensive line is tackle Bryson Finley.

***

How do you get shut out in Colorado? Talk about the world changing…

***

Muir does return Kevon Seymour, and they also return a pretty good back in Tairen Owens, but the guy completely under the radar in junior-to-be linebacker Denzel Talifero. At 6-0 and about 220, Talifero was in on 73 tackles in 2010 and rung up four sacks.

The Mustangs are going to need each of them because graduation has put the hurt to the program.

***

Last Add Bevacqua: Of course everyone knows that Bevaqua couldn’t hit blanking water if he fell out of a blanking boat…

***

Did you know that Bell Gardens assistant coach Frank Gallardo, used to be on Erick Escamilla’s staff at South El Monte in the early 2000’s?

***

Next Add Trades: If Muir is in a rebuilding mode, how about dealing Seymour to a Whittier Christian…or to San Dimas?

Fun stuff, but as likely as Peterson picking up the check after a staff meeting at Denny’s.

Stay thirsty my friends…
