Falcons Take Advantage of Apache Errors

(Arcadia) – Crescenta Valley took advantage of eight Arcadia errors enroute to an 8-1 Pacific League win on Thursday afternoon.

Erin Ashby struck out nine Apaches through five innings before giving way to Helene Cook in the sixth inning. Ashby gave up one hit with no Arcadia batter reaching second base.

The Falcons took an early 2-0 lead after the first inning as Ashby and Allison Lacey came around to score on a mixture of Sydney House’s single and an Apache miscue.

Lacey managed to double in Claire Ortiz in the second inning to add to the Crescenta Valley lead. Lacey added another run when she came home on a wild pitch.

As Crescenta Valley scored at will, Arcadia couldn’t muster a hit until the third inning with two outs on Yeram Park’s single to left.

Taking a five-run lead into the sixth inning, the Falcons added insurance with a three run inning. Delaney Gay and Ashby each singled and moved to second and third on a wild pitch. Lacey’s fielder’s choice brought in Gay. Maria Leon singled to bring in Desiree Ferraro and moved Lacey to third. Christina Tomic’s ground out scored Lacey for the final Crescenta Valley run.

Highlight reel moment ended the inning for the Falcons as Dominque Ortiz made a diving stop on Jessica Morena’s hot shot in the hole between first and second. Ortiz got up and threw Morena out by inches.

Kenzie Grimes made sure that the Apaches were not shutout in the seventh inning with a home run to right field with one out.
