It seems like just yesterday the first game took place in the 2011 season. Now with just a month left in the season teams are jockeying for position, while others are playing out the season.

STRIKE OUT CANCER UPDATE

Incredible turn out on Friday evening to watch San Marino visit La Canada in the 2nd Annual Strike Out Cancer.

Many area coaches came out to watch the event which took on playoff feel right from the opening pitch.

Lauren O’Leary and Michelle Floyd combined for 21 strike-outs in the game but the Spartans got the better of Floyd early.

Two other notes on La Canada: The Spartans have won nine-straight including this weekend’s Thousand Oaks tournament (which concludes April 23rd). During the winning streak La Canada has given up three runs (2 unearned).

THE COMMITMENTS

Crescenta Valley first baseman Sydney House is headed down the 118 to play at Cal-State Northridge. This season House is batting .500 with three homers.

La Salle first baseman Colleen McWilliams verbally committed to Marist College. The three-year varsity player, McWilliams led the team with a .436 batting average last season and converted from centerfield to outfield in her sophomore season.

SAWED OFF

Crescenta Valley’s Delaney Gay watched in disbelief last Thursday after her composite bat shattered in two pieces. As Gay looked at the bat handle, Coach Dan Berry brought the barrel end toward her.

While this was going on, the Apaches threw Gay out at first despite overthrowing first base.

After the incident Berry was asked by a parent if he had ever seen that occur to which the answer was “once”.

A COUPLE OF FRESHMAN PITCHERS TO WATCH

Arcadia’s Monica Baerg will have a future for the Apaches if she gets the opportunity.

Baerg came in a tough spot and shut the Falcons out. She has made seven appearances this season.

Beverly Valerio started the second game of a double-header against South Pasadena. The La Salle freshman had good command throughout the game against the Tigers.

In her first start she shutout South Pasadena while recording four strikeouts.
