O’Leary, Spartans Continue Streak

(Monrovia) –  Another solid outing by Lauren O’Leary helped La Canada shutout Monrovia 7-0 to continue its undefeated Rio Hondo League record.

O’Leary took a perfect game through the fifth inning before Nicole Guzman spoiled it with a single to right. She struck out six Lady Cats and only allowed the one hit.

Lauren Cox made her first appearance of the season with an impressive two-inning performance with four strike outs.

The Spartans jumped on starting pitcher Emmy Orozco early with two outs in the first.

Catherine Horner doubled and Megan Siepler followed with a walk. A wild pitch helped Horner and Siepler advance before Shirley Drange doubled to score both runners. Stephanie Bathke singled to center with Drange coming home on a throwing error by Monrovia for the third run of the inning.

Aubri Thompson had her best game of the season going 2-for-3 with three RBI’s for La Canada. Thompson’s single emptied the bases for the Spartans in the fifth inning to put the game out of reach as Horner, Siepler, and Bathke all scored to make the score 7-0.

While La Canada had no problems solving Orozco or Adrienne Guerra, Monrovia couldn’t get anything started on either O’Leary or Cox as they were stymied throughout.

For the Spartans pitching staff it has only allowed one earned run in 63 innings. O’Leary has not allowed an earned run in 62 innings and currently has not allowed a run for 28 straight innings.
