Franklin Hangs on at Northview, 16-13

(Covina District Field)- The Franklin Panthers, visiting from the City Section, took an early lead and was able to comeback Friday night for a 16-13 victory over the Northview Vikings.

After Franklin jumped to an 8-0 advantage, Northview responded on a 68-yard pass and paydirt strike from Victor Garcia to Will Mitchell over the middle that trimmed the Panthers’ lead to 8-7.

Tyler Ortega belted a 34-yard field goal through the uprights in the second quarter for a 10-8 Viking lead. He did it again in the third to make it , 13-8, from 33-yards out

Franklin reclaimed the lead for good midway through the fourth to make it 16-13 after another two point conversion.

Northview tried to rally on their final two possessions but was halted by an interception in the red zone.

The Vikings stopped the Panthers twice, first with a end zone interception by Kris Lopez and then on a turnover on downs deep in Northview territory

Marcel Perez’s team was able to advance to the Franklin 19 late, but penalty after penalty took the ball back to midfield and squashed hopes of a comeback.
