Crescenta Valley, CIF champs in 1973, has a great history of football

Good Morning!

T-minus-62 until “The Mid Valley Classic”

I suggest the SGV Shootout at Arroyo today…plenty of teams…and usually a lot of fun…especially if it reaches triple digits…

Yeah, the Dodgers offense definitely didn’t miss the presence of Manny Ramirez in the lineup…Nope, they slug five home runs in a game all the time…

Al Davis called Matt Kemp last night, the Raider owner thinks Kemp has the speed and hands to be a great wide receiver for his club…

We’ve been tramping around area football sharing what we’ve seen and what we’ve been told…Case in point Crescenta Valley.

I saw them at their own passing tourney back in June when it was raining and then we started getting reports about a terrific summer.

Last season the Falcons went 9-3 and bounced a good California team in the first round of the playoffs before falling to eventual champion Charter Oak. First impression is quarterback Karsen Reedy has graduated with his 2,000 passing and 700 rushing yards and its time to rebuild.

Think again CV HC Tony Zarrillo returns a solid senior passer in Kyle Cota and a potential star in running back Harrison Pessy…Even with Hoover in the fold, this makes the Pacific League a wild proposition in 2009 from Muir, to Arcadia, to Burroughs, to PHS, to even Al Eberhart’s Nitros at Glendale.

I’ve said it to many before I like it when the San Francisco Giants win, because at the end of the season there are few things better than the Giants and Dodgers playing with everything on the line…as long as Frisco remains seven games back and doesn’t crash any October parties.

Jonathan Sanchez’ no-hitter last night upset me because I was getting set to make a random remark about former Giant pitcher John “The Count” Montefusco…The well informed sports fan, just the sort that reads this column Monday thru Saturday, would have smiled at the random throw-away…Now with the no-hitter people are talking about Montefusco again…I’ll look like a johnny-come-lately…I’ll look like a Trib guy…

Has anyone mentioned Gary Lavelle lately?

Have I mentioned my “paydirt” experience with a Trib editor back in the day when I was told the newspaper didn’t use cliches? Did I mention the same week, the same editor described Monrovia basketball as “Showtime!”?

If I did, don’t worry I won’t mention it again…

Stay thirsty my friends…
