Pomona Slams Northview, 45-14

(Covina) – The Pomona Red Devils gave the Northview Vikings an ole’ fashioned beating, spoiling Northview’s homecoming Friday night at Covina District Field.

Pomona scored early and often in a dismantling of the host Vikings taking a 35-0 lead into halftime. Red Devils’ signal caller Brandin Schreiman was on target throwing for three touchdowns on seven of eight passing for 169-yards. Running back Sir-Darious Yabrough also found paydirt three times, scoring on runs of three, ten and 17 yards racking up a total of 178.

Schreiman got Pomona started on its first play of the game with a 41-yard pass to receiver Terell Mosby. He finished the drive with a 26-yard scoring strike to tight end Tavea Cobb giving the Red Devils an early 7-0 lead.

After a quick three and out from Northview, Yabrough got his number called and scored on a 17-yard jaunt putting Pomona up 14-0 halfway through the first.

Schreiman got his third touchdown of the night when he threw a routine fade in the corner of the end zone for Mosby. Mosby did most of the work, making a tough catch look effortless when he extended over the defender who had no chance against the athletic wide-out giving the Red Devils a 28-0 advantage.

“Schreiman can throw the deep the ball well, but we’ve got a receiver that can go up and get it too,” Pomona head coach Anthony Rice said. “We need to keep working, we’ve got some other good receivers we need to get the ball to as well.”

Pomona’s defense played tough, limiting the Northview offense to less than 110-yards through three quarters and forcing three turnovers.

The Vikings were able to put some points on the board in the fourth quarter but it was too late as the Red Devils sewed this one up in the first half.

“We just gotta keep working, we’ve got a lot of work to do. Sometimes we play good and sometimes we play bad,” Rice said. “If we can just stay consistent, I think we’ll do well the rest of the way.”

Next week Pomona (3-3) hosts Baldwin Park and Northview (1-5) host’s Wilson.
